Data show that in January 2023, BYD sold 151300 new energy vehicles, an increase of 62.44% over the same period last year, leading many new energy vehicle companies. It is undeniable that due to the decline of new energy subsidies and the reduction of working days caused by the traditional Spring Festival, most of the new energy car companies that have announced sales in China have dropped sharply month-on-month, and BYD is no exception.
In January 2023, BYD sold 150200 new energy passenger vehicles, up 61.60% from the same period last year and down 36% from the previous month, the first time BYD has fallen below 160000 vehicles since July 2022. Among them, the sales of plug-in hybrid cars were 78800, up 69.37% from the same period last year, and the sales of pure electric vehicles were 71300, up 53.79% from the same period last year. Among the subdivided brands, BYD Dynasty and Ocean net sold 143700 vehicles, an increase of 51% over the same period last year, which is still the main source of sales under BYD. Sales of the Tengli brand were 6439, up 7.3 per cent from the previous month.
As a new brand, Tengli brand currently has only one model, Tengli D9, that is, it delivered a total of 6439 new cars in January, ranking third among the new forces in terms of risk, second only to ideal and NIO. In the future, the trend brand will build five series of models with the letters D, E, N, Z and A, of which D is the MPV model series and N is the SUV model series. Among the subdivided models, in addition to the momentum D9, the momentum brand will launch two SUV models this year, of which the Tengli N7, a pure electric medium-sized SUV, will be officially unveiled in April. The new car is based on the INCEPTION concept car, and the starting price is expected to be about 300000 yuan. After the future listing, it will compete with Tesla Model Y, Xilai ES6 and other models. In addition, by the end of the year, the brand will launch a large and medium-sized SUV with 7 seats.
At the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show, Zhao Changjiang, general manager of the Tengli sales Division, once revealed to the media the delivery estimate of the Tengli brand for the New year. Zhao Changjiang said that monthly delivery of more than 10,000 vehicles at the end of the first quarter of 2023, monthly delivery of more than 20, 000 vehicles at the end of the third or fourth quarter, and a peak of 30, 000 vehicles a month by the end of the year. In short, the booming brand will become another key source of BYD sales in 2023.
At present, BYD is laying out its product matrix non-stop. At that time, BYD will be jointly responsible for four major products: dynasty net, Ocean net, Tengli brand and brand-new high-end look-up brand. The price of the products will go up to millions of luxury and down to 100000 yuan.
In addition to layout products, BYD has accelerated its overseas market since 2022, and overseas sales of new energy passenger cars have also risen month by month since then. The latest figures show that 10409 new energy passenger cars were sold in January 2023. 2023 will also be an important node for BYD to focus on expanding overseas markets. On January 31, local time, BYD officially sold its first model, ATTO 3 (domestic counterpart Plus), in Japan. The new car is priced at 4.4 million yen (the current price is about 228000 yuan). Delivery is expected to start in March. Earlier, the relevant person in charge of BYD revealed that BYD India has considered building a second factory in India, and will announce the relevant news in due course.
In response to the previous news that BYD's annual sales target is to hit 4 million vehicles in 2023, BYD said that there are many uncertainties in the market, consumer demand and supply chain system, so it is difficult for the company to judge the 2023 sales target. According to the situation and changes of the market, BYD will give full play to its own advantages and formulate various plans flexibly to meet the needs of consumers. If calculated on the basis of a sales target of 4 million vehicles, it means that BYD needs to achieve its monthly sales target of nearly 350000 vehicles in the next 11 months. By contrast, BYD's sales grew explosively in 2022, becoming the only car company in the independent brand camp with sales of 1.868 million vehicles, which completely ended the joint venture brand monopoly on the car market.
According to the latest data from the Federation of passengers, retail sales of narrow passenger cars in January are expected to be 1.36 million, down 34.6% from the same period last year and 37.3% from the previous month. Among them, retail sales of new energy are expected to be 360000, up 1.8% from the same period last year, down 43.8% from the previous month, and the market penetration is about 26.5%.
