Not long ago, Xiaomi attracted attention in the automobile industry because of the leakage of design documents. On Feb. 2, Xiaomi announced the outcome of the incident, and the partner involved was awarded 1 million yuan in financial compensation, and the whistleblower was also dealt with.
According to the notice, the cause of the incident was that a molding technology company in Beijing, a partner of Xiaomi, leaked the early design of the car's front and rear bumper due to poor management of its downstream suppliers. Xiaomi Group has seriously dealt with the partners involved in the matter in accordance with the confidentiality Agreement, and the results of the punishment are as follows: 1. A financial compensation of 1 million yuan shall be imposed in accordance with the confidentiality Agreement; 2. Instruct it to strengthen the information security management of the downstream suppliers and seriously deal with the perpetrators of the leaks; 3. Instruct the supplier to formulate a detailed rectification plan and comprehensively upgrade the confidentiality measures. In the announcement, Xiaomi stressed that Xiaomi Group has zero tolerance for leaks. All supplier partners must carefully implement the confidentiality Agreement.
According to reports, a certain Beijing Molding Technology Co., Ltd., mentioned in Xiaomi's internal report, is Beijing BAIC Molding Technology Co., Ltd., but it does not directly represent BAIC Group, but is only a joint venture subsidiary of BAIC Group. It mainly provides bumper-based automotive exterior system parts for automobile manufacturers in Beijing. According to Tianyan, Beijing BAIC Molding Technology Co., Ltd. was established in June 2008 with a registered capital of 160 million yuan and the legal representative Li Jingang (Chairman of BAIC Ruili). The scope of business includes the production of automotive bumpers, moulds, plastic products; R & D, sales of automobile bumpers, molds, plastic products and so on. According to the equity penetration map, the company is a joint venture between Beijing Hainachuan Auto parts Co., Ltd. and Jiangnan Molding Technology Co., Ltd., with 51% and 49% respectively.
In January, an auto blogger released a design picture of Xiaomi's first model, Xiaomi MS11, showing the modeling of the vehicle's exterior parts, including Xiaomi's bumper, Xiaomi MS11 decorations and details of Xiaomi's cooperation with BAIC.
As the first work of Xiaomi's cross-border auto circle, the news immediately triggered a wave of online attention, but Wang Hua, general manager of the public relations department of Xiaomi Group, immediately responded to the incident. Wang Hua responded: 1. It is true that the design documents kept secret by the secondary supplier are leaked; 2. The supplier is only a supplier of mold proofing, and the leaked documents are the design draft of the very early bidding process, not the final document. We will deal with it seriously in accordance with the confidentiality agreement signed with the supplier. In response to the statement, Wang Hua also stressed: "recently, there are many rumors about Xiaomi cars, true or false, which adds unnecessary annoyance to our research and development of Xiaomi cars."
The entry of Xiaomi Group into the auto circle began on March 30, 2021, when Lei Jun was full of confidence in building cars and vowed: "I decided to lead the team myself. this will be the last major start-up project in my life. After that, the above-mentioned Xiaomi car was leaked because of the design documents, and then there was news online that the design effect of the Xiaomi car MS11 had been exposed, but the exposure also showed that this was a video screenshot used by the internal review, not necessarily the final version.
According to Xiaomi's car-building plan, the first model of Xiaomi is expected to be officially mass-produced in the first half of 2024. The new car will be a sedan model with two versions to choose from. The "ordinary version" model sells for 30-350000, and the "more advanced version" costs about 350000-400000. Lei Jun revealed that Xiaomi's goal after entering the auto circle is to enter the first camp of the industry in 2024.
Xiaomi is not the first brand to enter the auto industry, which includes Huawei and Apple in the mobile world, but Xiaomi is more ambitious by comparison.
