On February 4th, the import of the new generation of Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was officially released in China. As a replacement model, the new car is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of 2.0T engine and motor, and its body size is higher than that of the old Grand Cherokee. The domestic launch is the top SUMMIT RESERVE version of the new Grand Cherokee 4xe series. Officials say the new car will be pre-sold in China on Feb. 11, and the new car has been booked.

In terms of appearance, the new car still uses a square shape, the front face is Jeep's iconic seven-hole grille design, the interior is supplemented by dot matrix chrome plating. Compared with the old model, the seven-hole net becomes slimmer and connected to the headlight group, and the LED light group is also more slender and has a larger opening in the bumper. At the same time, the front face of the new car is decorated with a lot of matte aluminum texture, which makes the new car look stronger and luxurious.

The new car has smooth lines on the side of the body, and the main change is that the D-column shape has been upgraded to a suspension design, and the charging interface is located at the left front wing of the vehicle, highlighting the identity of the new car. The color of the body is two-color design, the roof is black and the bottom is white. In the rear part, the new car also adopts a slender design style, the taillights on both sides are connected by a strip, the middle of the strip is marked with the word "Jeep", and the bumper is a large area of body decoration of the same color and two-sided exhaust layout.

In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car is 4912/1979/1798mm, the wheelbase is 2964mm, and the positioning is medium and large SUV. Compared with the old model, the length of the new car is increased by 84mm, the wheelbase is increased by 49mm, and the whole car is slimmer. It should be noted that, unlike past cars, the new generation of Grand Cherokee offers long and short wheelbase models, the long wheelbase version is called Grand Cherokee L, but the new generation of Grand Cherokee 4xe series only has a standard wheelbase version, so there is no long wheelbase Grand Cherokee L available in China at present, but it cannot be ruled out that it will be introduced in the future.

In the interior part, the new car retains the classic wood decoration and adds more leather package design, which is more fashionable in visual effect and improved in configuration compared with the old model. The center console of the new car adopts the popular 10.1-inch suspension multimedia display screen, and the co-driver side center console can also be equipped with a 10.25-inch interactive screen. The center console area retains some physical keys and is equipped with a new three-spoke steering wheel and knob shift design.

On the power side, the new car is equipped with a new plug-in hybrid system, including a 2.0T turbocharged engine and two motors, with a combined maximum power of 375 horsepower and a maximum torque of 637 Nm, matched by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The introduction of the domestic model is the new generation of Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid version, and it is also the second new energy vehicle introduced by the Jeep brand after the Shepherd 4xe. In terms of appearance and positioning, the price of the new car may be between 500000 and 600000 yuan, compared with $77075 (520000 yuan) in the North American market. As a medium-sized and large SUV model, the new car is expected to compete with luxury brands, including Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron, Xilai ES8 and Hongqi E-HS9.

As one of the important models of Jeep, it should be no stranger to domestic consumers to mention the Grand Cherokee. At present, the car series has been iterated to the fifth generation. According to the attention of the automobile industry, the Grand Cherokee first made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 1992, and the model was officially launched in 1993. In 1998, the second generation of Grand Cherokee was released, code-named WJ, and was officially introduced into China the following year.

In 1999, the Grand Cherokee officially entered the Chinese market and was made domestically by "Beijing Gyibug", which is commonly known as "Dache". In 2005, Jeep released the third generation of Grand Cherokee, the internal code is WK, and imported into the domestic market. According to new car traffic insurance data, grand Cherokee sales in 2022 totaled 3256 vehicles, down 10.07% from a year earlier. Jeep brand said that 2023 is an important time point for the 30th anniversary of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it is also an important part of the strategy for the Jeep brand to become a leading global electrified SUV brand.
