It should be noted that in just one week, this is the second time that Tesla has raised prices in China. On Feb. 10, the starting price of domestic Tesla Model Y rear wheel drive version increased by 2000 yuan, from 259900 yuan to 261900 yuan.

In other words, after the two price increases, the current domestic Model Y series have increased the price by 2000 yuan, while the Model 3 model does not involve the price increase, which remains the same as the original price, with the Model 3 rear-drive version priced at 229900 yuan and the high-performance version priced at 329900 yuan. According to the official website, the delivery period of Tesla Model Y rear wheel drive version and long-lasting version is expected to be 2-5 weeks, that of Model Y high-performance version is 1-4 weeks, and that of Model 3 rear-drive version and high-performance version is both 1-4 weeks.

In addition to the Chinese market, the price of Tesla Model Y in the US market has also been raised. The price of the high-performance version of Model Y has been raised by $500 to $58490, while the price of the long-lasting version has not changed, according to Tesla's US official website. At the beginning of this month, Tesla raised the US market Model Y long-range version by $1500 to $54990 and the high-performance version by $1000 to $57990. Similarly, the price of the Model 3 model in the US market has not changed.

The industry believes that whether in the Chinese market or the US market, the reason for the slight price increase of Model Y models is to stimulate overall purchase and delivery volume, and some analysts point out that the price increase of Model Y or to enhance the attractiveness of Model 3 and then promote its sales, because Model Y and Model 3 use different production lines, insufficient demand for Model 3 will lead to a waste of production capacity.

In fact, in the domestic market, the sales performance of Model Y is significantly better than that of Model 3. According to the data of new car traffic insurance, the cumulative sales of Model Y and Model 3 in 2022 are 316500 and 125200 respectively. In January 2023, sales of Model Y and Model 3 were 14400 and 12800 respectively.

Up to now, Tesla officially did not explain the price increase of domestic Model Y by 2000 yuan. However, compared with the previous drop of tens of thousands of yuan, the price increase of 2000 yuan for Model Y appears negligible. On January 6, the prices of Tesla's two domestic cars fell by an unprecedented rate, which shocked the entire automobile industry, with Model 3 falling by 2.0-36000 yuan and Model Y by 2.9-48000 yuan.

Under the "price for quantity" product strategy, Tesla's sales performance in China is more eye-catching, second only to BYD. According to the data, Tesla's wholesale sales in China were 66051, up 118.4% from the previous month and 10.3% from the same period last year, including 26843 domestic sales and 39208 exports.

As for Tesla China's Model Y price increase, whether the follow-up Model 3 will also open the price increase model, there is a high probability, of course, the authorities have not yet disclosed whether the price of the Model 3 model will be adjusted, and whether the final price increase will be subject to official news. However, people in the industry pointed out that Tesla does not license according to common sense, and it is normal for vehicle prices to rise and fall.

According to media reports, Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory will stop production of the Model 3 from February 19 to the end of February to transform the vehicle production line to produce a modified Model 3 (code name Highland). It is understood that the transformation of the factory's production line will be carried out in stages within more than two months: the first stage of the transformation begins on February 19, and some workers are no longer allowed to enter the production line for reasons of confidentiality. According to the plan, if this news is true, it means that the new Model 3 will go into production as soon as next month. In addition, the report pointed out that the production of Model Y models has not been affected by the transformation of the Shanghai super factory. It is understood that at present, Tesla's Shanghai factory plays a vital role in Tesla's global production. Since the factory's production line was upgraded, its production capacity has climbed to 1.1 million vehicles, becoming Tesla's super factory with the highest production capacity. Tesla recently announced on the social platform that deliveries of Model 3 and Model Y models have begun in Thailand, with the first batch of Tesla vehicles delivered in Thailand from the Shanghai Super Factory.
