According to the latest announcement of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall, the recall plan was filed with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, recalling the following vehicles from March 1, 2023.

Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd.: recall some imported Lexus NX vehicles produced between November 15, 2021 and January 10, 2023, totaling 25734 vehicles.

FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.: recall some bZ4X vehicles produced from September 6, 2022 to February 2, 2023, a total of 6213 vehicles.

Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.: recall some bZ4X vehicles produced between November 15, 2022 and February 3, 2023, totaling 6159 vehicles.

The reason for the recall: due to improper internal procedures of the front camera in the safe driving assistance system, there may be differences in target recognition when the vehicle passes through the road where the vehicle is parked continuously on the side, resulting in an accidental restart of the safe driving assistance system (TSS/LSS+). During the restart period, the safe driving assistance system does not work properly and there are hidden dangers.

Solution: Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will upgrade the internal procedures of the front camera for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

Emergency measures: if the PCS warning light on the dashboard is lit before the recall and repair, please contact the distributor in time for inspection and repair.

It is understood that the recalled model is the second-generation Lexus NX. The new car was launched in June 2021 and officially launched in September 2021. It offers three power options: plug-in hybrid, gas-electric hybrid and pure fuel version. In the domestic market, this model mainly competes with Mercedes-Benz GLK, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and other models.

According to the official website of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, the last Lexus NX recall was in September 2022 due to improper internal programming of the Lane maintenance Auxiliary system (LTA) and improper detection of anomalies in the electric parking brake system (EPB) control computer power loop in the brake actuator control unit (ECU). A total of 8308 Lexus were recalled for the first reason and 6491 for the latter.

As for the bZ4X, it is Toyota's first pure electric vehicle based on e-TNGA architecture, which is produced by FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota respectively. The new car is positioned as a medium-sized pure electric SUV, providing both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive power. In terms of size, the length, width and height of bZ4X are 4690/1860/1650mm and the wheelbase is 2850mm. In terms of power, the maximum power of the motor in the bZ4X precursor version is 150kW (204Ps), and the maximum power before and after the four-wheel drive version is 80kW (109Ps).

As one of Toyota's blockbuster models in China, sales in the domestic market are mediocre. According to the data, Guangzhou Auto Toyota bZ4X has sold 2391 vehicles since its launch on October 10, 2022, while FAW Toyota bZ4X has sold 1453 vehicles since its launch on October 25, 2022. Not long ago, Guangzhou Auto Toyota announced that it would adjust the price of the bZ4X, reducing its sales by 30, 000 yuan for a limited time, starting at 169800 yuan.
