Audi China said that from 2026, Audi's new models for the global market will be fully switched to pure electric cars, and the production of internal combustion engine models will be phased out by 2033. Under the guidance of the global strategy, Audi is steadily advancing the preparatory work for the production of pure electric vehicles in its own production base.

It should be noted that a few days ago, a major senior personnel change took place in Audi China. Audi China announced that Zeng Huifang (Katy Tsang) will be the Executive Vice President of Marketing and sales in Audi China with effect from March 1, 2023 and report directly to Dr. Wen Zeyue, President of Audi China. In addition to taking over the position, under the guidance of Audi's China Entrepreneurship 2030 Strategy, Zeng Huifang will join hands with two joint venture partners to promote the development of Audi's business in China.

Regarding Zeng Huifang's appointment, Wen Zeyue, president of Audi China, said: "Ms. Zeng Huifang has rich sales and marketing experience in China and global markets, which plays a vital role in accelerating the electrification transformation of the company."

According to the data, retail sales in the domestic luxury car market in 2022 were 3.09 million, up 6% from the same period last year. Among them, the traditional luxury car market fell 4% from the same period last year. According to the BBA of first-tier brands, Audi's cumulative sales in 2022 were 635588, down 9.2% from the same period last year, ranking not only at the bottom of BBA, but also among the brands with the highest decline in BBA (BMW fell 6.4% to 791985 and Mercedes-Benz fell 0.9% to 751714). Auto Industry concern believes that as the electric transformation of the car market has gradually become the mainstream, the sales of traditional luxury brands with very slow electric transformation in China have also been greatly affected, which is also one of the reasons why the sales of BBA brands in China have declined compared with the same period last year.

According to the data, the global sales of Audi electric vehicles in 2022 was 118200, an increase of 44.3% over the same period last year, of which the delivery of pure electric vehicles in Huazhong increased by only 9.8%, which is a far cry from the mainstream independent brands and new car-building forces in the domestic car market. In the domestic market, Audi's electric products include Q4 e-tron, e-tron, Q2L e-tron, Q5 e-tron and other models, with a price range of 200000-500000 yuan, but the model sales performance is very mediocre. According to the new car insurance data, in 2022, Audi Q4 e-tron delivered 3600 vehicles, Audi Q2L e-tron delivered 1753 vehicles, Audi Q5 e-tron delivered 1707 vehicles, Audi e-tron delivered 429 vehicles, RS e-tron delivered 43 vehicles.

Audi's sales performance has lagged behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the domestic market, as well as in terms of electrified transformation. In June 2022, Audi FAW brand-new PPE plant, Audi's first production base for pure electric vehicles in China, opened in Changchun. According to the plan, Audi FAW has a total investment of more than 18 billion yuan. The production base is planned to cover an area of about 150ha and has an annual production capacity of 150000 vehicles. However, the factory's first model, Audi A6 e-tron, will not be put into production until 2024. In the future, Audi will build electric cars based on PPE platform, in which Audi A6e-tron and Audi Q6e-tron series will be the first to be put on the market. By 2025, Audi will provide five domestically produced pure electric cars in the domestic market and about 30 new energy vehicles worldwide.

Audi China said in its latest release that by 2033, Audi's own production sites around the world will be put into production of electric vehicles, and Audi B ö llinger H ö fe and two plants in Brussels have already started producing pure electric models. Starting this year, the Audi Q6 e-tron, the first pure electric model, will be produced at the Ingolstadt plant; by 2029, all Audi's own global production sites will produce at least one pure electric model; and Audi will phase out the production of internal combustion engine models according to local conditions from 2033.
