AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/16 Report--
Honda said in a filing with the US Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) on March 15 that it was preparing to recall 448613 vehicles in the US market because a mistake in the production process could prevent the front seat belt buckle from being accurately locked.
The recall covers a number of best-selling Honda models, including the 2017-2020 CR-V, the 2018-2019 Accord and Accord hybrids, the 2018-2020 Odyssey, the 2019 Insight and the 2019-2020 Acura RDX.
The reason for the recall is that the seat belt buckle in the front seat of the vehicle has a safety risk and may not be locked properly. Honda said that during the continuous use of the seat belt, the surface coating on the seat belt buckle channel may age and gradually wear out, so the seat belt release button shrinks toward the channel at lower temperatures, so that the seat belt cannot be locked, and during the collision, the unlocked seat belt will not properly restrain the people in the car, thus increasing the risk of injury to drivers. Honda dealers will replace seat belt release buttons or latch assemblies for drivers and front passengers, while car owners who have previously paid for repairs to the problem will be compensated. Honda will issue a notice email to contact the owners involved from April 17.
It is understood that Honda realized that there may be a defect in the vehicle seat belt lock in June 2019, and then launched an investigation and finally identified the safety hazard on March 2 this year. As of March 2 this year, Honda has received 301 warranty claims related to the defects, but fortunately so far there have been no reports of casualties related to the defects.
In addition, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also disclosed that in addition to the 448613 cars recalled in the US market, Honda will also recall some cars in Canada, Mexico, Panama and San Martin. Honda spokesman Chris Martin said: "the recall of seat belt buckles mainly affects the US and Canadian markets, but a small number of vehicles in Mexico, Panama and San Martin also need to be repaired." It is not clear how many vehicles outside the United States have been affected.
Judging from the number of vehicles recalled by Honda, the number of nearly 450000 vehicles recalled this time is not small, it should be noted that this is not the first time Honda has issued a recall notice in the United States recently. In February, Honda also launched a recall in the US market involving 115000 vehicles, including the 2018-2020 Feido and 2019-2022 HR-V models, because the rearview camera may not display the image properly, resulting in defects in the normal use of the reversing image.
In the Chinese market, Honda issued four recalls in the domestic market, with a total of more than 250000 vehicles recalled, ranking sixth in the 2022 domestic passenger car recall list, according to previous statistics from the auto industry. The reasons for the recall include a number of hidden dangers, such as car cameras, steering systems, braking systems, rear door supports, and so on, including models such as Feido, LIFE, Spiegel, Ericsson, domestic hybrid CR-V, hybrid INSPIRE, hybrid Ericsson, hybrid Acura CDX, hybrid Odyssey, hybrid Accord. In other words, none of the four recalls issued in 2022 involved information about seat belt buckle defects.
According to the data, Honda sold 983500 vehicles in the United States in 2022, down 32.9% from the same period last year. Honda said the decline in sales was mainly due to supply chain shortages, after Honda said the supply dilemma had been exacerbated by the US West Coast Railway embargo. The lack of production capacity seriously affects the supply of new cars. As for the Chinese market, Honda sold 1.3731 million domestic terminal vehicles in 2022, a decline compared with the US market, but also down 12.07 per cent.
