On March 24, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued an announcement that Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products. From now on, the recall of some imported Model S electric vehicles with production dates from October 14,2015 to August 23,2020 will be expanded to 2649 vehicles. This is also Tesla's first domestic recall in 2023.

The reason for the recall is that the vehicles in the scope of this recall may have a slight backward alignment of the front spare box latch and the catch, which may not affect the locking of the primary latch, but may affect the locking of the secondary latch. When the primary latch is accidentally released, if the secondary latch is not locked, the front spare compartment lid may suddenly open during vehicle driving, affecting the driver's sight and increasing the risk of collision accident, resulting in potential safety hazard. In view of the above defects, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will inspect the secondary latch device of the front spare box cover for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge. If it is found that the front spare box cover is not correctly locked by the secondary latch device, it will reposition and install the front spare box latch device to ensure its correct position to eliminate potential safety hazards.

It should be noted that this recall belongs to the expanded recall of Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalling some imported Model S, imported and domestic Model 3 electric vehicles issued on December 31,2021.

On December 31,2021, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products, and decided to recall some imported Model S, imported and domestic Model 3 electric vehicles from now on. Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled 19697 imported Model S electric vehicles with production dates from January 21,2015 to November 18,2020 for the same reasons mentioned above.

In terms of the number of recalls, Tesla recalled a total of 22346 vehicles before and after the recall, this recall only 2649 vehicles, the number is not very high compared with the previous one, but, as an imported model, Model S sales in the Chinese market itself is not high, as a contrast, the number of risks shows, Model S sales in China in 2021 is only 77 vehicles.
