On April 7, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued an announcement that GAC Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products, and decided to recall the following vehicles from now on.

I. GAC Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled 224476 gasoline Accord series vehicles produced from October 9,2020 to December 6,2022. II. Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled some gasoline version INSPIRE series vehicles produced between January 6,2021 and November 24,2022, totaling 31020 vehicles. That is to say, the cumulative recall number of GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda exceeds 255,500 vehicles.

The reason for the recall is that the vehicle in the scope of this recall did not record the data used to detect whether the driver depressed the brake pedal due to the setting of the Automotive Event Data Recording System (EDR), resulting in incomplete EDR record report. In view of the above defects, Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software of EDR system of vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge to repair the function of EDR system.

According to "Auto Industry Concern," Accord and INSPIRE are classic Honda models. Among them, Accord model has a history of 38 years so far, dating back to 1994 in the domestic market at the earliest, when the fifth generation Honda Accord was introduced into China by means of import, and at the same time, a special model equipped with 2.2L engine and leather seats was newly added. After this generation of Accord model was launched, it also officially filled the market gap of Honda automobile in mid-size sedan.

On July 1,1998, Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd.(formerly Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd.) was formally established as a joint venture company jointly funded by Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. and Japan Honda Technical Research Industry Co., Ltd., with 50% shares held by both parties. One year later, the sixth generation Accord was introduced into domestic production by Guangqi Honda, becoming the first domestic model owned by Guangqi Honda. The car was produced for three years. Up to now, the development of Accord car series has undergone ten update iterations, among which the 10th generation Accord was launched in China on April 16,2018, and the 10th generation mid-term modified model was launched on October 9,2021, with the price of RMB 169,800 - 259,800 yuan.

Honda Accord sold 223,200 vehicles in 2022, ranking second in the list of mid-size cars in China, second only to Camry (250,800 vehicles), according to new car traffic insurance data. At present, GAC Honda's new generation Accord has been exposed online. Before that, the new car has been declared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China. It is expected to be officially unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show opened in April this year, or listed in the first half of this year.

As for INSPIRE model, on October 25,2018, Dongfeng Honda brand-new medium-sized vehicle INSPIRE was officially launched, with a price range of 182,800 - 249,800 yuan. The gasoline version is equipped with 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 194 horsepower. The sharp hybrid version is equipped with a hybrid system composed of 2.0L engine and electric motor, with a comprehensive maximum power of 215 horsepower. On October 15,2021, Dongfeng Honda officially named INSPIRE as "Yingshi School". Before that, domestic dealers and media called INSPIRE "Yingshi School", but the official did not announce this naming method. On November 12,2021, the medium-term model was officially launched, and eight new models were launched, with the price range of 179,900 - 255,900 yuan. As a mid-term model, the new car has been upgraded for appearance and interior.

Inspires was a successor to Platinum and a sister model to the Accord, but sales did not explode after the launch. According to the data, the cumulative sales volume of Yingshi from 2019 to 2021 was 56266 vehicles, 55170 vehicles and 56353 vehicles respectively, and the cumulative sales volume from January to May of 2022 was 21840 vehicles, while the Accord in the same period was 181604 vehicles, 172709 vehicles, 165627 vehicles and 57509 vehicles respectively, that is to say, the best-selling model of GAC Honda was almost twice as many as that of Yingshi.

According to the number of this recall, the recall scale is still relatively large. The cumulative recall quantity of GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda exceeds 255,500 vehicles. However, the recall problem is not serious, and only the software upgrade of EDR system of vehicles is needed.
