AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)04/28 Report--
On April 27th, Toyota Motor Group released its global production and sales report for fiscal year 2022 (April 2022-March 2023). According to the data, Toyota's cumulative global sales in fiscal year 2022 were 9.6098 million vehicles, up 1.03 percent from the same period last year, setting a new record of 9.54 million vehicles in 2018. Toyota produced a total of 9.1302 million new cars, an increase of 6.54 percent over the same period last year, also setting a record of 9.07 million vehicles in history.
On the production side, Toyota's cumulative global production rose 6.54 per cent year-on-year to 9.1302 million vehicles in fiscal year 2022 (April 2022-March 2023), slightly higher than the previous production target, while it was also the second consecutive year that Toyota achieved a year-on-year increase in global production. It should be noted that Toyota has cut its production target for fiscal year 2022 twice before. According to the original plan, Toyota plans to produce about 9.7 million vehicles for fiscal year 2022.
Due to the epidemic and the shortage of semiconductor parts such as chips, Toyota's production plans were disrupted for a time, especially in Japan's home market. In October 2022, due to a shortage of semiconductors and other parts and faster delivery of new cars, Toyota had to temporarily use mechanical keys to replace smart keys. In its announcement, Toyota said it would temporarily replace two intelligent digital keys (electronic keys and mechanical keys) with mechanical keys, and stressed: "this is a temporary measure aimed at delivering the car to customers as soon as possible." as for the second smart key (electronic key), it is planned to be handed over to the car owner as soon as it is ready. " Fortunately, the epidemic and supply chain problems have improved in 2023.
According to the data, Toyota produced a total of 278700 vehicles in the Japanese local market in fiscal 2022, a slight increase of 0.94% over the same period last year (for comparison, Toyota's local production capacity in Japan fell to the lowest level in a decade in fiscal 2021), while overseas markets produced 6.3434 million vehicles, an increase of 9.21% over the same period last year. Asia excluding Japan produced 3.2199 million vehicles, and North America produced 1.8425 million vehicles.
In terms of sales volume, according to Toyota's regional sales performance, Toyota's domestic market sales in Japan increased by 0.81% to 1.4072 million vehicles in fiscal 2022; overseas market sales increased by 1.1% to 8.2026 million vehicles; and 3.2759 million vehicles were sold in Asia, 2.3998 million in North America and 1,0443 in Europe. With regard to sales growth, Toyota said that Toyota's sales hit a record high in fiscal 2022 due to the easing of the COVID-19 epidemic and chip shortage, as well as the gradual recovery of production and consumption capacity in Asia and North America. However, in the segment, Toyota's sales in North America and China in fiscal 2022 were lower than in the previous fiscal year.
In terms of new energy, Toyota sold 24500 vehicles in 2022, while Toyota said it sold 17500 vehicles in the first quarter of 2023, including luxury brand Lexus.
Although Toyota's production and sales figures hit an all-time high in fiscal 2022, Toyota's current capacity is still limited by a global chip shortage. Toyota said that in view of the global chip shortage and the COVID-19 epidemic, Toyota's production situation remains unclear, with a production target of about 9.5 million-10.6 million vehicles in 2023 (natural year).
According to the latest data, Toyota sold 2.3993 million vehicles worldwide from January to March 2023, up 1.82% from a year earlier, with domestic sales in Japan up 31.40% to 493900 vehicles and overseas sales down 3.8% to 1.9054 million vehicles. In terms of production, Toyota produced 2.3446 million vehicles worldwide from January to March 2023, up 4.73 per cent from a year earlier, of which domestic production in Japan rose 19.30 per cent to 808500 vehicles, while overseas production fell 1.59 per cent to 1.5362 million vehicles.
