According to media reports, Stellantis recently said that it will recall 219000 Jeep Free Light vehicles worldwide. The reason for the recall is that the electrical short circuit of the electric lift door module may cause the vehicle to catch fire when the igniter is turned on or off. The vehicles involved in the recall are 2014 to 2016 Jeep Free Light models equipped with electric elevators, including 132000 in the United States, 23000 in Canada, 3000 in Mexico and 60500 outside North America. Stellantis advises car owners to park their vehicles outdoors, away from the building, until the recall is complete. Stellantis is currently working on a repair plan and is expected to send a recall notice to car owners from June 30.

According to officials, the problem was discovered during a routine review of customer data, and no injuries have been found in 50 customer assistance records, 23 warranty claims and 21 on-site reports. It is worth noting that this is not the first time Jeep Free Light has recalled. In 2015, Jeep Free Light was in the United States because the electric rear door control module may be affected by moisture. Under special circumstances, the flow of liquid into the electric rear door module of the relevant vehicle model will cause its internal corrosion and short circuit, resulting in the rear rear door module not working properly or ablation, and 164000 vehicles will be recalled due to safety risks. In China, for the same reason, Jeep recalled 16576 cars in China in 2016, involving imported free light models that were manufactured from January 4, 2013 to September 10, 2015.

In fact, since Jeep Free Light entered China, it has also been recalled many times in China. In 2014, 14046 free light vehicles imported from 2014 to 2015 Jeep were recalled because the tumbling parameters of the restraint control module (Jeep) were too sensitive to calibrate, or caused the side safety air curtain and seat airbags to unfold unnecessarily, resulting in safety risks. In March 2016, due to manufacturing problems, in some cases, there were errors in the wiring of the vehicle air-conditioning lines, which may lead to the contact between the air-conditioning lines and the exhaust manifold, increasing the risk of vehicle fire and causing safety risks. Some 4082 free light vehicles imported from the 2014-2015 Jeep were recalled.

In May of the same year, static electricity caused by the friction between the vehicle wiper tape and the front windshield gathered on the front windshield and was transmitted to the power module in the BCM through the wiper motor, which may cause the wiper not to work, and some imported 13676 2014 free light models produced from January 4, 2013 to July 11, 2014 were recalled due to safety risks. Chrysler (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. said it will replace the damaged module free of charge for the recalled vehicles and add a grounding coil to the affected vehicles to avoid electrostatic accumulation and eliminate the defect.

In January 2017, due to improper wire pressing at the end of the transmission harness, the vehicle may have intermittent high resistance, resulting in the gear accidentally moved to neutral, resulting in safety risks. Recall part of 2014-2015 Jeep imported free light 17230 vehicles. In March of the same year, there may be noise, deflection or poor overall connection because the bolt or nut torque on the seat assembly may be low. If not dealt with, it may affect the structural integrity of the seat, there are safety risks, recall part of the 2014-2015 imported Jeep free light 63 vehicles.

Jeep Free Light in September 2018, due to the possible decrease of the oil level of the 2.4L engine of the vehicle, the warning that the engine oil pressure is lower than the critical value is not sufficient, and in extreme cases, the engine may flameout and there is a safety hidden danger. Guangzhou Auto Fiat Chrysler Co., Ltd. recalled another large-scale recall, recalling some 131206 domestic free light vehicles with 2.4-liter engines in 2016-2017. In the same month, due to the communication failure caused by the accidental short circuit of the vehicle in the CAN-C network, it was unable to turn off the cruise function by setting a button to recall a total of 1176 domestic free light engines of 2.4L engine in 2016-2017. In November of the same year, Jeep Free Light recalled some 13221 imported Jeep Free Light in 2014-2015 due to the same problem. Then, from 2019 to 2021, Jeep Free Light conducted three more recalls due to supplier manufacturing problems and transmission problems. From the above recall information, it is not difficult to see that the recall of Jeep Free Light has occurred frequently in China since it was listed.

Relevant data show: earlier, Jeep Free Light (Cherokee) has been entering the Chinese market by way of importation. In January 2014, Fiat Group announced the acquisition of Chrysler Group, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat. In January 2015, GAC Fiat Automobile Co., Ltd. changed its name to Guangzhou Auto Fiat Chrysler Co., Ltd. In November 2015, the first domestic model of Jeep was officially launched, and Free Light became the new domestic name of the new Cherokee (Cherokee), with a price ranging from 229800 yuan to 315800 yuan.

Due to the reputation of imported JEEP Cherokee, Free Light was favored by the market as soon as it went public, selling more than 5000 vehicles in the second month after listing, with annual sales exceeding 10,000. However, due to the endless quality problems of the vehicles, several recalls led to the collapse of Fangguang's reputation and led to a collapse in sales. Since 2021, the monthly sales of domestic free light began to fall to 100 vehicles, and fell to double digits in 2022. In 2023, domestic free light sales fell to single digits, with sales of 3 and 1 respectively from January to February. With the defeat of Guangzhou Auto Fick in China, the domestic JEEP may not escape the fate of the curtain after all.
