On May 19th, Jeep officially announced that the new generation of Grand Cherokee 4xe will be officially launched in China, with a total of two models with a price range of 64.99-749900 yuan.

As a replacement model, the appearance of the new car still uses the family design style, the power is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of 2.0T engine and motor, and the body size is improved compared with the old Grand Cherokee. After listing, it will compete with Mercedes-Benz EQC (49.19-571900 yuan), Audi e-tron (54.68-648800 yuan), Lailai ES8 (49.6-656000 yuan) and Hongqi E-HS9 (50.98-779800 yuan).

In terms of appearance, the new car still uses a square shape, the front face is Jeep's iconic seven-hole grille design, the interior is supplemented by dot matrix chrome plating. Compared with the older models, the seven-hole mesh is slimmer and connected to the headlight group, and the LED light group is also more slender and has a larger opening at the bumper. At the same time, the front face of the new car is decorated with a lot of matte aluminum, making the new car look stronger and luxurious at the same time. The new car has smooth lines on the side of the body, and the main change is that the D-column shape has been upgraded to a suspension design, and the charging interface is located at the left front fender of the vehicle. The color of the body is two-color design, the roof is black and the bottom is white. In the rear part, the new car also adopts a slender design style, the taillights on both sides are connected by a strip, the middle of the strip is marked with the word "Jeep", and the bumper is a large area of body decoration of the same color and two-sided exhaust layout.

In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4912/1979/1798mm, the wheelbase is 2964mm, and the positioning is medium and large SUV. Compared with the old model, the length of the new car is increased by 84mm, the wheelbase is increased by 49mm, and the whole car is slimmer. It should be noted that, unlike past cars, the new generation of Grand Cherokee offers long and short wheelbase models, the long wheelbase version is called Grand Cherokee L, but the new generation of Grand Cherokee 4xe series only has a standard wheelbase version, so there is no long wheelbase Grand Cherokee L available in China at present, but it cannot be ruled out that it will be introduced in the future.

In the interior part, the new car retains the classic wood decoration and adds more leather package design, which is more fashionable in visual effect and improved in configuration compared with the old model. The center console of the new car adopts the popular 10.1-inch suspension multimedia display screen, and the co-driver side center console can also be equipped with a 10.25-inch interactive screen. The center console area retains some physical keys and is equipped with a new three-spoke steering wheel and knob shift design.

On the power side, the new car is equipped with a new plug-in hybrid system, including a 2.0T turbocharged engine and two motors, with a combined maximum power of 375 horsepower and a maximum torque of 637 Nm, matched by an eight-speed automatic transmission. The pure electric mileage is 48km, and the total mileage is expected to exceed 708 km.

The introduction of the domestic model is the new generation of Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid version, and it is also the second new energy vehicle introduced by the Jeep brand after the Shepherd 4xe. As one of the important models of Jeep, the car series has iterated to the fifth generation, which was first introduced into China by "Beijing Gyibug" in 1999, which is commonly known as "Dache". In 2005, Jeep released the third generation Grand Cherokee and introduced it into the domestic market by way of import. The fourth-generation Grand Cherokee of Jeep went public in 2011, and the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee was not released until 2021.

Although Guangzhou Auto Fick has ended the joint venture and Jeep has terminated the domestic process, Jeep has not withdrawn from China, but continues to distribute the Chinese market by way of imports, and the Grand Cherokee, as the core model of the Jeep brand, continues to be sold in China by import. Previously, as the domestic Jeep model is in a state of inventory clearance, so the terminal discount is very strong, a number of 4S stores carry out major promotions, and as the flagship model of the Jeep brand, the Grand Cherokee discount is unique, plummeting by 200000, but the terminal sales of the car are still very ordinary. New car traffic insurance data show that the Grand Cherokee sold 3256 vehicles in 2022, down 10.07% from a year earlier.

Considering the high price of the new Grand Cherokee 4xe, it is obviously difficult for Jeep to rely on the Grand Cherokee 4xe to carve up the SUV market share.
