The midsize sedan sales list came in April 2023! According to the April 2023 midsize sedan sales list of Automotive Industry concern, there were more than 10,000 models sold in April, namely Accord, Camry, Passat, Model 3, Maiteng, BMW 3 Series and Asian Dragon.

Compared with March, all the top five models on the list changed significantly in April, with the biggest change being that the Model 3 fell to fourth place from first place in March, while Accord returned to the list. Sales of the Model 3 were 13196 in April, down 8530 from 21726 in March, down 39.26% from the previous month, making it the only one of the top seven models on the list that declined from the previous month.

Accord and Camry ranked first and second respectively in April, and both models increased compared with March. Of these, Accord sales were 25590, up 26.95% from the previous month; Camry was 18193, up 55.45% from the previous month. At present, Accord and Camry are in the process of upgrading, and the price discount range of the old model is large, coupled with the high popularity of the market itself, so it is reasonable for sales to grow. Accord is scheduled to go public today, while the Camry will be officially unveiled at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show and in early 2024.

In addition, Teana, which is also one of the top three in Japan, sold 6740 vehicles, which fell out of the top 10, but also increased by 57.11% from 4290 in March. In the past, the Accord, Camry and Teana have long accounted for a large share of the midsize sedan sector, but now that situation has changed. For example, Teana has fallen out of the top five for many times, as a comparison. For the whole of 2022, the Camry, Accord and Teana sold 242225, 220771 and 146012, respectively, ranking first and second in 2022.

FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng and SAIC-Volkswagen Passat, which are sister models to each other, also showed significant growth compared with the previous month, especially the Passat, which increased by 3666 vehicles and Mai Teng by 137 vehicles. As sister models, the performance gap between the two models in the car market is not big. As a reference, SAIC-Volkswagen Passat and FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng sold 163500 and 152400 vehicles respectively in 2022, ranking third and fourth in the list of medium-sized sedan sales in 2022, second only to Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

In the BBA luxury brand camp, the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L all entered the top 10 in April, but the performance of the three models varied. Among them, BMW 3-series sales of 11925 vehicles, an increase of 10.65% month-on-month, ahead of Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L. Both Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L declined month-on-month, with sales of Mercedes-Benz C-Class down 29.47 per cent to 9728 vehicles in April and Audi A4L down 8.47 per cent to 8598 vehicles.

Among the top 10 models on the list, Asian Dragons and Cadillac CT5 also showed a clear pick-up trend, but unfortunately, domestic models all fell out of the top 10 in April, but fortunately, including BYD Seal, Red Flag E-QM5, Xiaopeng P7 and Pentium B70, sales increased month-on-month in April, with BYD Seal ranked 12th with sales of 6323, Red Flag E-QM5 with 4876 and Xiaopeng P7 with 4064. By contrast, dark blue SL03, Red Flag H5, Euler Lightning Cat, Red Flag H6, Red Flag H5 Classic, and Lulai ET5 all declined month-on-month. Among them, compared with March, dark blue SL03 decreased by 2540 vehicles, Xilai ET5 decreased by 2144 vehicles, and Red Flag H5 Classic decreased by 3250 vehicles.

FAW Hongqi H5, currently on sale, went on sale on July 26, 2022, with a total of seven models with a price range of 15.98 yuan to 225800 yuan, which is the only one of Hongqi products priced below 200000 yuan. Changan Deep Blue SL03 is also listed in the same period of time. On July 25, 2022, it launched a total of 4 models with a current price of 17.99-699900 yuan. This model is the first model under the Deep Blue SL03 brand, based on Changan's brand-new EPA1 pure electric platform, positioning medium-sized sedan, providing extended-range version, pure electric version and hydrogen version. The main competitors include Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal. As for the listing time of ET5 is not very long, but the future performance of ET5 is very good. Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Lulai, once said bluntly: "nearly a year, the average monthly sales of BMW 3-series is more than 12000 vehicles. With the delivery of ET5, ET5 will sell more than 3 series in a year." However, in terms of April sales, there is still a big gap between the ET5 and the BMW 3-Series.

In addition to the above models, the SAIC Mingjue MG 7 model was added to the list of medium-sized cars in April. It went on sale on March 29 and launched a total of six models with a price range of 11.98-169800 yuan, of which 1.5T engine models sold for 11.98-137800 yuan and 2.0T engine models sold for 14.58-169800 yuan. As the new car is SAIC Mingjue's first model with a black mark, with sales of 2949 in the first month on the market, considering that the new car has not been on the market for a long time, it will take more time to verify the future performance of the new car.

In addition, the sales of Dongfeng Citroen C6 models, which have attracted much market attention, also showed a significant decline in April compared with the previous month. In March, Dongfeng Group's Dongfeng Citroen, Dongfeng Peugeot, Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Honda, Dongfeng Fengshen and other brands all launched car purchase subsidy policies, among which Citroen C6 models had the greatest preferential treatment. Citroen C6 co-creation models and C6 comfort models with the original guidance price of 211900 yuan and 226800 yuan were subsidized up to 90, 000 yuan, while other C6 models were subsidized between 40, 000 yuan and 46000 yuan. The price cut also boosted sales of Dongfeng Citroen C6 models to 1259 in March, but only 326 in April, down 74.10% from a month earlier.

Generally speaking, after the "price war", the sales of many models returned to normalization in April, including Accord, Camry, Passat, Maiteng, BMW 3-Series, Asian Dragon, Cadillac CT5 and other models, but some models were also hit by the "price war". The industry believes that April is the starting point for the second quarter of this year, and the market environment is good, which is conducive to the production and sales of car companies. However, at present, the demand power of the domestic automobile market is still weak, the effective demand has not been fully released, the impact of irrational sales promotion in March has not been fully released, and some consumers still hold money and wait and see.
