On June 1, some netizens filmed a sudden fire at the BYD factory in Xi'an. From a number of video images exposed on the Internet, the scene was filled with smoke and filled the air, and the fire was very violent. Shortly after the fire broke out, the high-tech fire brigade arrived at the scene, and the fire department said that the situation was true and was being dealt with.
At about 6 o'clock on the same day, the official Weibo of Xi'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone said that a fire broke out in the material area of workshop No. 1 of BYD Pangguan production base at 11:15 on June 1, 2023. After the fire broke out, the public security, fire fighting, emergency and other units of Xi'an High-tech Zone dealt with it on the spot. By 14:11, all the open fires had been put out and there were no casualties. At present, the investigation into the specific cause of the fire is under way.
On June 2, the Financial Associated Press reported that in response to the above incident, BYD said that a fire broke out in the material area of a workshop in Xi'an factory, there were no casualties, and the fire has been put out. However, as of press time, BYD officials have not yet announced the specific cause of the fire, the specific cause of the fire still needs to wait for the results of the official follow-up investigation.
It is understood that up to now, BYD has laid out a total of nine major factories in Shenzhen, Guangdong, Changsha, Hunan, Xi'an, Shaanxi, Henan, and other regions, among which the Xi'an factory is located in Xi'an, the ancient capital of China, and is one of the important production bases of BYD at present.
In 2003, BYD acquired Xi'an Qinchuan Automobile Factory, thus obtained the vehicle production license and settled the factory in Xi'an Hi-Tech. Since then, through continuous expansion of investment, it has successively distributed the whole industry chain business, such as passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and so on. BYD Xi'an plant has an annual production capacity of 900000 vehicles in the first, second and third phase of the project, which is mainly responsible for the production of popular models such as Qin PLUS DM-i and Song PLUS DM-i.
According to the data, in September 2014, the first phase of BYD Xi'an New Energy vehicle Base was put into production in Caotang Science and Technology Park of High-tech Zone, forming an annual production scale of 300000 vehicles. In January 2018, BYD launched the second phase of the new energy passenger vehicle expansion project with a total investment of 2 billion yuan and an annual production capacity of 300000 vehicles. At the beginning of 2021, part of the second phase capacity was put into use, and the total production capacity of the base increased to between 40 and 500000 vehicles, mainly producing hot models such as Qin and Song DM-i super hybrid cars. At present, the Xi'an plant has entered the fourth expansion phase, which is expected to be completed as early as June, when the annual production capacity can be increased to 1 million vehicles.
BYD is the largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles in China, and the latest official figures show that from January to May 2023, BYD sold 1.0026 million new energy vehicles, an increase of 97.63 percent over the same period last year. In other words, BYD sold more than 1 million vehicles in the first five months of this year, more than half of last year's total of 1.8635 million. Among them, sales from January to May were 151300, 191700, 206000, 210300 and 240200 respectively, showing a monthly increasing trend, of which BYD sold more than 200, 000 vehicles for the third month in a row.
According to BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu's previous expectations, BYD aims to start sales of 3 million vehicles this year and strive to double to 3.6 million. Calculated according to the 3 million sales target, it means that BYD has achieved 33.42% of its annual sales target in the first five months of this year. BYD needs to complete sales of 1.9974 million vehicles in the next seven months, with an average of 285300 vehicles per month. According to BYD's current development trend, it is not very difficult to achieve the 3 million-year sales target this year.
