AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/08 Report--
On June 7, Maruti Suzuki NEXA in India announced the price of the five-door version of the Giemney, which ranges from 1,274,000 rupees to 1505,000 rupees, or about 11 to 130000 yuan (refer to the exchange rate of June 7, 2023). It is understood that the Gimney five-door version was launched in January this year, with 5MT and 4AT versions available. The car is produced at the Gurgaon factory in India and has received a total of 30, 000 orders so far.
On January 12, the five-door version of the Suzuki Jimni was officially unveiled at the 2023 Indian Motor Show, which is based on the three-door version of the Jimney, with more interior space and rear seats. It is worth noting that although Suzuki has withdrawn from the Chinese market, the Jimney 3-door model is sold domestically through parallel imports.
In terms of appearance, the Gimney five-door version still uses the classic five-hole grille with circular headlamp group design, and the front enclosure has also been modified to some extent, with quadrilateral ventilation openings in the middle and circular fog lamp groups embedded on both sides. The overall shape makes the new car look more domineering, with a sharp contrast between the black roof and the yellow main color paint.
On the side of the body, the most striking are the lengthened body and the back door, which makes the new car look bigger and will have more space inside the car. At present, the length of the Japanese three-door version of the Giemney is 3395mm, the length of the global version is 3645mm, while the body length of the five-door version is 3985mm, the wheelbase is 2590mm, and other data are the same as the Jimney three-door version.
In the interior part, the shape of the center console of the new car is basically the same as that of the three-door version, with a 9-inch central control multimedia display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and conventional configurations such as a rearview camera Arkamys sound system. In terms of space, the rear seat of the Indian model can accommodate three passengers, that is, the five-seat layout, and the trunk space can be increased from 208 liters to 332 liters when the rear seats are put away, greatly improving the loading capacity.
In terms of power, the Gimney 5 door version is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 134 Nm. The transmission system can be selected as a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. It is worth mentioning that the four-wheel drive system of the five-door model will have three optional modes: high-speed two-wheel drive, high-speed four-wheel drive and low-speed four-wheel drive; in off-road capability, the new car has a 36-degree approach angle, 24-degree pass-through angle, 50-degree departure angle and ground clearance up to 210mm.
Overall, the biggest difference between the Gimney five-door version and the three-door version is the body size, while the rest, including appearance, interior design and power system, remain the same. Of course, whether it can be sold in the Chinese market is also unknown.
In May 1993, Changan Automobile Group and Suzuki Co., Ltd. jointly established Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd., launching Otto, Swift and other small cars are highly sought after by consumers and are known as the "king of cars". However, when the domestic market began to launch larger car products, Suzuki did not follow up in time, and sales continued to decline since 2012, and eventually had no choice but to delist.
Abandoning China inevitably makes Suzuki a little more bleak, but that doesn't mean Suzuki is not doing well. In 2022, Suzuki accumulated sales of 2.9685 million vehicles, up 7.4 per cent from a year earlier, of which the Indian market was 1.6136 million, up 15.5 per cent from a year earlier. Due to Suzuki's contribution, India overtook Japan in 2022 to become the world's third largest car market, after China and the United States. According to the latest figures released by the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, about 4.725 million new cars were sold in India in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 25.7 per cent.
