AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/24 Report--
Recently, Honda recalled 1.3 million cars worldwide because of potential problems with the rearview camera image, which may not appear on the display screen. Of these, 1.2 million vehicles were recalled in the United States, 88000 in Canada and 16000 in Mexico. The vehicles involved are some Odyssey produced in 2018-2023, Pilot in 2019-2022 and Passport in 2019-2023.
273870 warranty claims related to the issue have been received between May 2017 and June this year, and there have been no reports of casualties related to the recall, officials said. Subsequent dealers will install an improved cable harness at the existing display audio and vehicle terminal connections, as well as a correction cover on the vehicle cable connector to correctly connect the audio display unit.
In fact, the three models of the recall also recalled 330300 vehicles in the United States in March because of the risk of side rearview mirrors falling off. According to the official recall document released earlier, the poor stickiness or glass shedding of the heating pad behind the vehicle's side view mirror will reduce the driver's visibility and increase the risk of collision. Among the recalled vehicles are 2020-2022 Honda Odyssey, 2020-2022 Honda Passport, 2020-2021 Honda Pilot and 2020-2021 Honda Ridgeline.
The company investigated the problem after it was discovered in a 2018 market quality report that some vehicles had a vibration problem with rearview mirrors, officials said. In October 2020, the problem became more serious. In July 2021, the supplier replaced the heater pad and rearview mirror backplane tape. In November 2021, the shedding of the rearview mirror still exists, and the official further investigation. On March 9, 2023, officials determined that the vehicle had safety defects and carried out a recall. At the same time, officials said they had received 71 warranty claims related to the issue, but there were no reports of casualties.
At present, there is no information about the recall due to the problem of rearview camera image in the domestic market. But it is worth noting that Honda also launched a massive recall in the domestic market in April, with more than 255500 vehicles recalled. The recalled vehicles are some gasoline version Accord series cars manufactured between October 9, 2020 and December 6, 2022, and some gasoline version INSPIRE series cars produced between January 6, 2021 and November 24, 2022. The recall is due to the setting of the vehicle incident data recording system (EDR), so that the EDR cannot fully record the data after the driver presses the brake pedal. To solve this problem, Guangzhou Auto Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Honda Motor Co., Ltd. will upgrade the EDR system of the vehicles within the recall range free of charge to repair the EDR system function.
Judging from the scale of several Honda recalls, the number of recalls is still relatively large. Although the official recall of defective vehicles reflects the responsible attitude of car companies, for consumers, frequent large-scale recalls will also have a certain impact on the reputation of their brands.
