AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/03 Report--

According to the latest media reports, the Renault brand will return to the Chinese market as imported cars and embrace Chinese consumers. It is understood that the Chinese parallel imported car company, Garage (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd., has carried out authorized cooperation with Renault Korea Automobile Co., Ltd. (RKM), and took the lead in introducing Koreao into the Chinese market, and has obtained the national 6B emission certification license and approved to be listed on the domestic market.

In order to better serve the customers of domestic Renault brand, Garage (China) has also set up Wuhan Xingnuo Automobile sales and Service Co., Ltd., which undertakes the work of network development and management, new car sales, marketing, after-sales service and so on. In terms of sales network, Wuhan Xingnuo will, on the one hand, rely on the dealer network of the original Renault imported car era and Dongfeng Renault era to undertake new car sales, and will also open up new sales channels. In the future, Wuhan Xingnuo also plans to use many classic models of the Renault brand.

In April 2020, Renault Group announced that it would transfer its shares in Dongfeng Renault to Dongfeng Automobile Group. After that, Dongfeng Renault stopped carrying out business activities related to the Renault brand. The move means that Renault will withdraw from China's fuel passenger car market and will focus on the development of electric vehicles and light commercial vehicles in the future.

Throughout history, Dongfeng Renault can be regarded as a very young joint venture, but it has struggled in the Chinese market for nearly seven years, but it still cannot escape the "seven-year itch". In December 2013, Dongfeng Motor signed a joint venture contract with Renault Group to form a joint venture company, Dongfeng Renault Automobile Co., Ltd., in Wuhan with a share ratio of 50:50.

After the establishment of Dongfeng Renault, it launched two models, Correa and Coreao, in 2016, with a total sales of 30026 vehicles in the whole year and 72188 in 2017, which is the peak moment in Dongfeng Renault history. Since then, Dongfeng Renault has domestic Enoch, Corey, in which Enoch is Dongfeng Renault's first pure electric model, NEDC integrated mileage 271km, subsidized price range of 6.18-71800 yuan.

Since then, Dongfeng Renault began to decline, falling to 50109 in 2018 and 15392 in 2019. In 2020, with the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, it became the last straw to crush Dongfeng Renault. In April of that year, both Dongfeng Automobile Group and Renault Group issued documents to terminate the joint venture Dongfeng Renault operation, Renault Group transferred its 50% stake in Dongfeng Renault to Dongfeng Automobile Group, and Dongfeng Renault stopped the business activities related to the Renault brand. In July 2020, Dongfeng Renault Automobile Co., Ltd. changed its name to Dongfeng Automobile (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., and Renault Group withdrew from the ranks of shareholders and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dongfeng Automobile Group.

Although Dongfeng Renault has retired from history, it does not mean that Renault has disappeared from the Chinese market. Renault also has three joint ventures in China. They are brilliance Renault Gold Cup Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as brilliance Renault Gold Cup), easy New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as easy Jet) and Jiangling Group New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jiangling New Energy). Of course, these three companies have a very low sense of presence in the current market, especially Jiangling Group New Energy, whose cumulative sales of Yi and Xiao Kirin from January to May in 2023 were 1127 and 499 respectively. Some analysts believe that although Renault has accumulated a lot in electrification technology, based on past failures, Renault did not understand the preferences of Chinese consumers, but imposed its will on the Chinese market. In the field of electrification, how to do a good job of local design to meet the aesthetic and needs of Chinese consumers is still a major problem facing Renault.

At present, the electric models launched by Renault and Chinese automakers are not effective, and Renault has returned to the Chinese market as an imported brand. "Automobile Industry concern" believes that in the future Renault is more important to promote the layout of electric vehicles in the Chinese market. After all, China has become the focus of the development of new energy vehicles, Renault will not give up this "big fat meat".

On June 28th, Renault Group unveiled the future strategy and goals of the Alpine brand-with revenue of 8 billion euros by 2030 and the launch of seven new models. According to the target, by 2030, the annual revenue of the Alpine brand will exceed 8 billion euros, of which 1 billion euros are expected to come from China, with an overall operating profit margin of more than 10% and a compound annual income growth rate of 40% from 2022 to 2030; break even with revenue of 2 billion euros by 2026; electrify 100% products by 2026 and achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Starting from 2024, Alpine plans to launch 100% pure electric models and expects to break even by 2026; from 2027, Alpine will enter a phase of global expansion, tailoring models to different market needs. The seven new models will also include the new A110 sports car and the new four-seater sports coupe A310.
