According to media reports, BYD's new medium-sized sedan, the Seal DM-i, will go on sale in August with an expected price range of 18-250000 yuan, with competitors targeting traditional medium-sized joint ventures such as Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, Nissan Teana and Buick Regal.

As we all know, BYD Ocean Network is divided into warship series and marine life series, in which warship series is plug-in hybrid model, marine biology series uses pure electric model. It is understood that the Seal DM-i was renamed from the destroyer 07, which made its debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, and now it is renamed Seal DM-i, which will undoubtedly change the future development trend of Ocean.com, but so far BYD officials have not publicly responded to the adjustment of product strategy.

In terms of appearance, the Seal DM-i is created using BYD's "Ocean Aesthetics" design concept and incorporates the design elements of OCEAN X. the front face weakens the edge of the grille through trapezoidal openings and chrome strips to form a borderless grille. The headlights are the same as the seals, using double LED light sources, and the dot matrix LED daily running lights extend downward on both sides of the main lights, and form the style of the letter "C".

On the side of the body, the Seal DM-i uses a slippery body with front and rear waistlines, and the side skirt is designed in a cutting style and extends all the way to the rear bumper. In the rear part, the Seal DM-i designed a spoiler shape at the edge of the trunk, and the position of the rear bumper diffuser was integrated with progressive horizontal stripes. The taillight adopts penetrating design and adopts dot matrix light source.

In terms of size, the length, width and height of the seal DM-i are 4980/1890/1495mm, and the wheelbase is 2900mm. Although the seals are positioned as medium-sized cars, the length and wheelbase of the two models are not the same. As a comparison, the length, width and height of the seal are 4800/1875/1460mm and the wheelbase is 2920mm.

In the interior part, the Seal DM-i center console uses a relatively straight shape, the 10.25in full LCD meter is a relatively traditional built-in design, the adaptive rotary suspension center control screen is 15.6in, it is also equipped with a HUD head display system, and the front row central armbox is equipped with a NFC induction area.

On the power side, the Seal DM-i will be equipped with two optional BYD DM-i powertrains, including 1.5L and 1.5T versions. The 1.5L engine has a maximum power of 81 kW and a peak torque of 135 Nm, matching a drive motor with a maximum power of 145 kW and a peak torque of 325 Nm, and a 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 102 kW and a peak torque of 231 Nm. Matching a drive motor with a maximum power of 160 kilowatts and a peak torque of 325 Nm. In terms of pure electric range, NEDC operating mode pure electric mileage will provide 121km and 200km options according to different models. It is understood that the current declared model is the DM-i version, and it is not known whether the DM-p model with main performance will be launched in the later stage.

According to the CAC data, the top three medium-sized car sales in the first half of the year were Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Tesla Model 3, of which the Camry sold 102500, the only model with more than 100000, while Accord and Model 3 were 94400 and 90200 respectively. It is worth mentioning that BYD Seal also entered the top 10, selling a total of 40800 vehicles in the first half of the year. BYD Han Positioning medium and large cars were not included in the list, with a total sales of 97700 vehicles in the first half of the year.

As mentioned earlier, BYD's renaming Destroyer 07 to Seal DM-i will undoubtedly change the future development trend of Ocean.com, but in any case, BYD Seal will have both pure electricity and plug-in power in the future, and will also provide consumers with more car choices.

In the future, BYD Seal DM-i will aim at the joint venture medium-sized car market, competing with traditional medium-sized joint venture cars such as Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, Nissan Teana, Buick Regal, etc., although it is not known for the time being how the Seal DM-i will perform in the market, its presence will at least make these predecessors feel uncomfortable.
