According to media reports, the cheapest model of BMW Brilliance 1 Series sedan (F52) has been officially discontinued, and the last 1 Series sedan has been rolled off the assembly line at BMW Brilliance Shenyang Tiexi Factory on July 27. In other words, the car officially withdrew from the historical stage.

At present, consumers only support the purchase of 1 Series sedan cars or vehicles in transit at BMW 4S stores. Reported that BMW 1 series sedan will not have a modified model in the future, nor will it launch a successor model, Brilliance BMW will upgrade the 1 series production line after the domestic 1 series sedan version is discontinued, preparing for another model.

The early BMW 1 Series was mainly sold in China by import. The price range of the main hatchback version was 256,000 - 469,000 yuan. However, due to the relatively high price, the car had no sense of existence in China. Until 2016, Brilliance BMW officially released the domestic version of 1 Series at Guangzhou Auto Show this year, which is different from imported models. The domestic version of BMW 1 Series is mainly the three-compartment version (F52), which is more in line with the demand of Chinese market. Moreover, it is built based on UKL front-wheel drive platform, which has more advantages in space and cost.

At the end of 2016, BMW Brilliance brand-new 1 series sedan was launched

BMW 1 Series sedan (F52) has been produced for more than 6 years since its launch in 2016, and has undergone several minor changes, but no replacement models have been introduced. At the beginning of 2017, BMW 1 Series sedan was officially launched in the domestic market. The car was jointly developed by BMW headquarters in Germany and BMW engineers in China. It was only produced in China and sold only in China, becoming a special model for China.

In 2019, BMW released the third generation BMW 1 Series (F40) hatchback model and launched it in overseas markets, but the domestic 1 Series sedan has not been updated simultaneously, but continues to be sold in a small way. At present, the 2023 BMW 1 Series three-compartment sedan on sale was launched in December 2022. The new car launched 4 models with a price range of 208,900 - 249,900 yuan. It is powered by 1.5T and 2.0T engines. The maximum power is 136 hp and 178 hp respectively. The peak torque is 220N·m and 280N·m. It matches 6-speed manual self-contained (118i) or 8-speed manual self-contained gearbox (120i/125i).

BMW 1 Series can be regarded as BMW's entry-level model on sale, mainly competing with luxury compact cars such as FAW-Volkswagen Audi A3 sedan, Mercedes-Benz CLA class, Volvo V40 and Lexus CT in the car market. With the official discontinuation of the BMW 1 Series sedan in China, it means that the car will no longer launch a modified model or a replacement model, and BMW's products will no longer have less than 200,000 products.

As for the reasons for discontinuation or related to the failure of entry-level models to bring sales and profit growth to the brand, such as BMW 1 Series, Audi Q2 sales are not satisfactory. According to the data, the cumulative sales volume of BMW 1 Series in 2022 was 25351 vehicles, compared with 8860 vehicles in the first half of 2023, with an average monthly sales volume of only more than 1,000 vehicles. In fact, BMW is not the only brand to stop production of entry-level models. In the BBA camp, Audi and Mercedes have similar plans. In February last year, Audi CEO Marcus Dussman said that its entry-level Audi A1 and entry-level SUV Audi Q2 would be discontinued at the end of the product cycle, and that there would be no new successor models. In addition, according to German media reports, Mercedes-Benz also decided not to develop a new generation of A-class models, while B-class MPV models would be officially discontinued in 2025.

Back to BMW topic, the report refers to, BMW 1 series sedan production line will be dismantled after the suspension of production, Brilliance BMW Shenyang Tiexi factory will be put into production chassis code F78 extended wheelbase 2 series four-door coupe in the future, and this car may become a domestic entry-level BMW model.

Foreign media reported that Brilliance BMW will make a new generation of 2-series four-door coupe long-axis version in 2025, replacing the discontinued 1-series three-compartment sedan. The next-generation 2-series four-door coupe with chassis code F74 is expected to be put into production in November next year, and for the first time launch an extended wheelbase version exclusive to the Chinese market, chassis code F78, but the car is expected to be put into production until early 2025. In the future, this new car will be put into production at BMW Brilliance Shenyang Tiexi Plant, when the Tiexi Plant will include this long-wheelbase 2-series four-door coupe, 3-series and X1. However, as of press time, both F74 and F78 are in the testing stage, and more news still needs to wait for official announcement.

At present, BMW 2 series four-door coupe is imported into domestic sales, with two 225i models launched at a price of 272,900 - 298,900 yuan.
