On July 31, BYD's new car, the Seal DM-i, made its debut. The new car is renamed from the original destroyer 07 and is powered by a DM-i plug-in hybrid power system consisting of a .5-liter or 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a motor. It is understood that the new car has been offline in Zhengzhou Phase II factory, according to the plan, the new car will be on the market in the third quarter of this year, the price range may be 180000-250000 yuan.

Judging from the latest pictures, in terms of appearance, the new car follows the design style of the ocean series "Ocean Aesthetics" and the overall shape is angular. Specifically, the front face of the new car uses a large-size borderless grille, the interior of the grille shows a ripple shape, and the hood is marked with the letter "BYD", with narrow headlamp groups on both sides, and a double LED light source design, which looks quite aggressive. Unlike the seal EV currently on sale, the new car's daily running lights are connected to the headlamp group to form a "C" shape, which is highly recognizable after lighting. On the other hand, the seal EV integrates the air intake shape in the link part.

On the side of the body, the new car is equipped with two waistlines with sharp lines, the side skirt is designed in cutting style and extends to the rear bumper, and the window is blackened to enhance the fashion sense of the vehicle in the visual effect. In addition, the new car also uses the popular hidden door handle design, with the below personalized multi-spoke rim shape to enhance the vehicle's sense of grade. In the rear part, the new car taillight adopts the popular penetrating design and adopts dot matrix light source, which presents rich details after lighting. In addition, the new car also designs a spoiler shape at the edge of the trunk, and the position of the rear bumper diffuser is also integrated with progressive horizontal stripes.

In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4980mm/1890mm/1495mm, wheelbase is 2900mm, wheelbase and other dimensions are not the same as seals, but closer to the Han series models. As a reference, the length, width and height of the seal are 4800/1875/1460mm and the wheelbase is 2920mm.

In the interior part, the new car is also based on the design concept of "Ocean Aesthetics". The dashboard adopts left and right symmetrical design, and the "waves" rolled up on both sides hold up the black panel across the dashboard to create a visual experience with a sense of suspension. In terms of configuration, the new car dashboard uses a "2-inch 1" combination configuration-HUD head-up display system, 15.6in adaptive rotary suspension Pad and a 10.25in full liquid crystal instrument, the overall sense of science and technology. In addition, the new car also uses a crystal bar as the visual core of the sub-dashboard, and together with a set of mechanical buttons to form the "Heart of the Ocean" control center.

In terms of power, the new car is expected to be equipped with the same powertrain as the Han DM-i championship version, providing 1.5L and 1.5T DM-i hybrid systems, of which the 1.5-liter engine for Snapcloud-plug-in has a maximum power of 81 kilowatts, peak torque of 135Nm, matching maximum power of 145kW and peak torque of 325Nm. The maximum power of the Snapcloud-plug-in 1.5Ti engine is 102kW and the peak torque is 231Nm. The matching maximum power is 160kW and the peak torque is 325Nm. Pure electric mileage or 121km and 200km are available according to different models.

According to the performance of the new car, it is expected that the new car will compete with traditional medium-sized joint venture cars such as Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, Nissan Teana, Buick Regal and so on.

Up to now, BYD has a total layout of dynasty net, ocean net, momentum, look up and equation leopard brands. among them, ocean net is a new product sales network launched by BYD in 2021, which is subdivided into marine life series, warship series and e series products. According to the product layout plan, marine life series are pure electric models, while warship series are plug-in hybrid models. All products will be equipped with DM-i hybrid system, with cars, SUV and MPV models.

With the destroyer 07 renamed Seal DM-i, it means that BYD Seal will have both pure electricity and plug-in power in the future, and the emergence of Seal DM-i will also change this situation. It is not clear how the subsequent BYD Ocean net product strategy will be adjusted.

Of course, although the Seal DM-i was renamed from Destroyer 07, the new car still has obvious advantages over models of the same class in terms of configuration, power and range, and is expected to further boost BYD sales after launch.

From January to June 2023, BYD remained firmly at the top of the list of automakers in the first half of the year with sales of 1.1546 million vehicles, making it the top seller of passenger cars in China, according to the latest retail data of the Federation of passengers. At the same time, BYD is the only car company on the list with sales of more than 1 million vehicles, with a market share of 12.1%.
