AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/03 Report--

According to the German media "BimmerToday", BMW's 6-Series GT (G32) model will be discontinued this year, and its stock models will be sold before the end of this year. In other words, the discontinuation of the car means that BMW has no more GT models for sale.

As of press time, BMW did not officially respond to the news, but foreign media reported that BMW also plans to stop selling its 4-series two-door coupe and 8-series two-door coupe, and will launch a new model to replace its product series after the suspension of sales. BMW may launch basic coupe, hard-top convertible coupe and soft-top convertible coupe models, which may emulate the new generation of Mercedes-Benz CLE models, the report said.

It is understood that the 6-Series GT, the full name of the 6-Series Gran Turismo, is a brand new model released by BMW in June 2017. as BMW's medium-and large-scale SUV,6 Series GT was the successor of the 5-Series GT (F07), it was jointly built on the CLAR platform with the BMW 5-Series. At present, the car is produced by the only two major factories in the BMW Group's Dingerfen factory in Germany and Chennai factory in India, but the 6-Series GT sold worldwide is mainly produced in the Dingefen factory.

BMW 6-Series GT is not domestically produced, but imported into China. At present, the 2022 BMW 6-Series GT is on sale in China, with a total of 630i luxury design set, 630i M sports suit and 630i M sports traveler version, with prices of 590900 yuan, 630900 yuan and 699900 yuan respectively. The power is equipped with a 2.0T four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 180 kilowatts and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The transmission system matches the 8-speed automatic transmission and adopts the front and rear drive layout.

As for the reason for the suspension of production, it may be related to the poor sales performance of the car market. Although the car was launched in 2017, it has not been successful in the C-end market and is mainly used as an airport and hotel shuttle in some European countries. Data show that in April this year, BMW 6-Series GT sold less than 650 vehicles in China. By contrast, BMW's 5-Series, also built on the CLAR platform, averages more than four figures a month, with the latest sales approaching 10,000 in June. The German market is the worst-selling model of the BMW brand, with cumulative sales of only 237 in the first half of 2023 and 509 for the whole of 2022.

Production of the BMW 1-Series hatchback was also discontinued before it was revealed that the 6-Series GT had stopped production. On July 27th, the BMW 1-Series hatchback officially withdrew from the historical stage, and the last 1-Series hatchback went off the line at the brilliance BMW Shenyang Tiexi factory. The reason for the suspension of production is also related to the fact that the car can not bring sales and profit growth to the brand. Data show that the cumulative sales of the BMW 1-Series in 2022 was 25351, compared with only 8860 in the first half of 2023, with an average of more than 1,000 per month.
