As a medium-term revamped model, the new car is redesigned for appearance and interior, while providing only 1.8T power. In terms of appearance, the front face of the new car uses a large-size borderless intake grille, the interior is supplemented by a diffusion lattice shape design, and a brand new shield lion logo is replaced. At the same time, the shape of the headlamp is slender, with three LED daily lights extending downward on both sides, and the internal light source is matrix LED, which makes the visual effect more youthful at the same time. Taken together, the front face of the new car maintains the same design style as the new Peugeot 508 overseas version.

The side of the body continues the design style of the old model, but the new car adds new double-color 18-inch rims, black rearview mirrors and window trim strips to enhance the sense of movement of the vehicle. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4870/1855/1455mm and the wheelbase is 2848mm. The rear part of the car, which is different from the overseas version, the internal structure of the new car taillight does not adopt the overseas model design style, but is consistent with the old model. In addition, the original LOGO of the new car has also been cancelled, and the central logo has been replaced by a larger English logo with the word "508L" on the tail, which to a certain extent indicates the extended identity of China, with a heavy rear encirclement and double-sided exhaust layout, which makes the visual effect of the new car younger and sportier.

In the interior part, the new car uses the i-Cockpit all-sensory cockpit, with a dual-format sports steering wheel, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument and a 10-inch central control screen, with physical buttons at the bottom of the central control screen. In addition, the new car system has also been upgraded to support wireless Huawei HiCar, Baidu Carlife functions. In terms of power, the new car no longer provides a 1.6T version, but a standard 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 211 horsepower, a peak torque of 300 Nm, and an eight-speed manual transmission. For comparison, the old Dongfeng Peugeot 508L offers three power options: 1.6T engine, 1.8T engine and 1.6T plug-in hybrid.

According to the official website, Dongfeng Peugeot products currently on sale include Peugeot 408, Peugeot 508L, Peugeot 2008, Peugeot e2008, Peugeot 4008, Peugeot 5008 and so on. Peugeot 508L is a medium-sized car owned by Dongfeng Peugeot and a transformation of Peugeot. In July 2011, Dongfeng Peugeot introduced the 508 model into domestic production and sales, providing 2.0L+5 speed manual transmission and 2.3L+6 speed automatic transmission two sets of powertrain, the price range is 16.97-229700 yuan.

In March 2019, Peugeot 508 was replaced and began to be domestically produced. As a model specially built for the Chinese market, compared with the European version, the new car adds 60mm on the wheelbase, which is more in line with the preferences of Chinese consumers. After listing, it mainly competes with Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana, Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat and other similar models.

Although Dongfeng Peugeot currently owns a large number of models, sales are mediocre. According to the data, Dongfeng Peugeot sold 17286 vehicles in the first half of this year, of which Peugeot sold 7078 vehicles, followed by Peugeot 508 with 3193 vehicles, and the rest sold less than 3000 vehicles. In other words, Dongfeng Peugeot's sales performance is only Peugeot 408.

So will the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L improve Dongfeng Peugeot sales after its listing? "Automotive Industry concern" believes that even if the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L has a significant adjustment in appearance and interior design, and comes with 1.8T power and five-link rear suspension, considering the fierce competition in this market segment, it is expected that it will be difficult to reverse Dongfeng Peugeot's sales after its launch, of course, as the new car has just launched, the final performance of the car market remains to be seen.
