AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/13 Report--
Retail sales of domestic passenger cars in July were 1.775 million, down 2.3 per cent from a year earlier and 6.3 per cent from a month earlier, according to the Federation of passengers. Among the subdivided models, car sales in July were 838000, down 7.1% from a year earlier, accounting for 47.2% of all passenger car sales. Among them, according to the July top20 list of medium-sized sedan sales counted by Automotive Industry concern, there were more than 10,000 models sold in July, namely Camry, Passat, Maiteng, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L.
In the sales list of medium-sized sedan top20 models, it is clear that among the top 10 models in July, with the exception of the Passat model, all models declined month-on-month, with Tesla Model 3 falling 65.74 per cent month-on-month.
According to the data, sales of Model 3 fell to 7791 in July from 22741 in June, down 65.74% from the previous month, and the ranking also fell from second to eighth in June. For the reason for the sharp decline in Model 3 month-on-month, the industry believes that the main reason may be related to Tesla China's sales overseas. As we all know, Tesla China's first month of each quarter is the export month, the rest of the new cars are mainly delivered to the domestic market. Data show that Tesla China sold 31400 vehicles in July, an increase of 271.4 percent over the same period last year, of which 32862 were exported.
Toyota Camry remained at the top of the list in July, with sales of 17613 vehicles, but down 26.72 per cent from a month earlier. According to the plan, the new Camry will go public in early 2024. Surprisingly, Teana and Accord, both "the top three of the Japanese system", also showed a significant decline. Teana sold 5561 vehicles in July, down 50% from the previous month and falling out of the top 10. The Accord was 9008, down 21.07% from the previous month, and the ranking also fell to 9th place. As for the reason for the decline in Accord sales, "Automotive Industry concern" believes that it may be affected by the Accord replacement.
The new generation Accord went on sale on May 20. As a new generation model, the new car has made comprehensive changes in appearance, size and interior, with fuel version and plug-in hybrid version on the power. however, the launch of the new generation of models has not brought better sales performance. since the new generation Accord went on sale on May 20, it has sold more than 10,000 vehicles a month.
Data show that from January to June this year, Accord sales were 14594, 13218, 20158, 25590, 11783 and 9008 respectively, with a cumulative sales of 94351 vehicles. As a medium-sized sedan priced at 179800-258800 yuan, its market competitors are not only Camry, Teana, Passat / Maiteng, LaCrosse and other traditional joint venture models, including the positioning of medium and large sedans, the BYD Han DM-i championship version is also its potential competitor.
As a cost-effective family car, Accord (price range 16.98-259800 yuan), Camry (price range 17.98-269800 yuan) and Teana (price range 17.98-269800 yuan) are often discussed and compared by consumers, also known as "Japanese three Musketeers". But now these three models have gradually widened the gap.
In addition to the above models, the sister models SAIC-Volkswagen Passat and FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng both sold more than 10,000 vehicles in July, including 17231 Passat and 15860 Maiteng. As a classic medium-sized car, Passat won the B-class sales in 2016 and 2019, while Maiteng won the B-class sales in 2017 and 2018, with annual sales of more than 200000 vehicles, respectively. However, with the rise of independent brands, Passat and Maiteng's market position has also been shaken to a certain extent.
In the BBA luxury brand camp, the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L ranked 4th-6th respectively in July, with the BMW 3-Series slightly better, with sales of 15458 vehicles, while Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L sold 14198 and 12578 respectively.
In terms of independent brands, the Red Flag H5 was among the top 10 in July, with sales of 9600 vehicles, making it the only self-branded model on the list of Top10, while Red Flag E-QM5 ranked 11th with 6852 vehicles. Unlike other Red Flag models, the Red Flag H5 is targeted at a younger group and has become a representative of autonomous medium-sized cars because of its more people-friendly prices.
In addition, among independent brands, BYD Seal, Xiaopeng P7, Changan Deep Blue SL03 and Xilai ET5T all entered the top 20, ranking 13th, 15th, 17th and 20th respectively. Among them, the ET5T is a new model, ET5T is the ET5 Touring (travel version), the car launched on June 15, a total of two models, the price range of 29.80-356000 yuan, with the same price as the ET5 car, it should be noted that the ET5T loading space is larger, the industry believes that, to a certain extent, this weakens the market competitiveness of ET5. For reference, the Lulai ET5 sold 2337 vehicles in July.
In addition to the above models, Regal, Cadillac CT5, MG 7 and Mondeo are also in the top 20. Among them, the new Regal launched on July 24, the new car launched a total of 25T super-sharing version (1.5T) and 28T sharing version (2.0T) two models, the price range is 15.98-175800 yuan. For comparison, the old Buick Regal prices range from 196800 yuan to 249800 yuan, compared with a 37000 yuan drop in the starting price of the new car. To sum up, as the main young sports model, the new Regal has made a comprehensive upgrade in appearance, interior and configuration, and the price has also fallen, and sales of the new car are expected to grow further after its launch.
Overall, July is the traditional off-season for car sales, and there is nothing wrong with the month-on-month decline in model sales. According to the data, retail sales of independent brands in July were 940000 vehicles, up 15% from the same period last year, with a market share of 53.2% and 5.8%, while retail sales of mainstream joint venture brands were 590000, down 28% from the same period last year. German brands have a market share of 20.8%, Japanese brands 15.8% and the United States 7.7% (0.7%). Judging from the data, although the market share of independent brands has reached 50%, it still fails to surpass joint venture brands in some market segments. According to the July list of medium-sized cars, German brands and Japanese brands continue to maintain a leading position. Among independent brands, only Red Flag H5 is in the top 10.
