It is decided to recall some Chery eQ1 electric vehicles produced from December 3, 2016 to February 9, 2018, totaling 20063.

The announcement shows that some vehicles within the scope of the recall due to problems with the software strategy of the battery system, after a long period of frequent fast charging or long-term parking, the pressure difference inside the power battery gradually increases, and the pressure difference exceeding the design value may lead to limited power driving of the vehicle. In extreme cases, electricity may occur under high voltage, the vehicle loses power, and there are safety risks.

In view of the above defects, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. will upgrade the battery management system software of vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks. It should be noted that the recall was carried out in the context of the defect investigation initiated by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration.

This is not the first recall of Chery eQ1. In June 2022, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 8067 eQ1 electric vehicles produced from June 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018 because the internal parts of the brake master cylinder of some vehicles were improperly protected during production, which may reduce braking efficiency and increase safety risks. To this end, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. will inspect the braking system of vehicles in the recall area free of charge and replace the brake master cylinder if necessary to eliminate safety risks. It is worth mentioning that the recall was also carried out in the context of the defect investigation initiated by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration.

The Tramway report learned from the car complaint website and Chery eQ1 circle that many car owners have reported that Chery eQ1 electric cars have lost power, and most of them are 2022 models, while the recall is the old model.

Some car owners said that when they were driving normally on the highway in mid-April, the vehicle suddenly lost power and finally parked the car in the emergency driveway. there was no accident, and afterwards contacted the 4S store to pull the vehicle for repair, but did not admit that there was a problem. Until July, when driving normally on the national highway, the vehicle suddenly jumped out of a lot of hints and lost power again. The car owner said helplessly, "after buying a car less than a year ago, there were two high-voltage power outages, and many car owners encountered the same problem, but they all came to nothing in the end."

The first generation of Chery eQ1 was officially launched in March 2017, and achieved sales results of 47000 vehicles in 2018 and 77000 vehicles in 2019. It should be noted that this model is heavily supplied to the car rental market. After Wuling Hongguang MIN EV went public in July 2020, Chery eQ began to be abandoned because of overpricing, and sales began to decline.

Chery eQ1 sold a total of 12554 vehicles from January to July in 2023, compared with 57076 in the same period in 2022, down 78.0% from a year earlier, according to the Federation of passengers. Of course, the decline in Chery eQ1 sales may be related to its market pricing. The price starting from 64999 yuan is much higher than Hongguang MINIEV, and it is also higher than the newly launched Chery QQ ice cream, and Chery QQ ice cream seems to be more in line with the current consumer aesthetic.

The recall of returning products, whether in June 2022 or this time, was initiated under the investigation of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and many consumers had previously reflected a lot of problems, reflecting the perfunctory attitude and arrogance of manufacturers in dealing with consumer problems.
