On October 3, Chery Holdings Group (hereinafter referred to as "Chery Group") released its latest monthly sales report. Data show that in September 2023, Chery Group sold 190100 vehicles, an increase of 30.7% over the same period last year, the third consecutive month of its sales of more than 150000 vehicles, and cumulative sales of 1.2532 million vehicles from January to September this year, an increase of 40.2% over the same period last year. For comparison, Chery sold 1.234 million vehicles in 2022, which means its cumulative sales in the first nine months of this year exceeded those of last year.

Up to now, the passenger car business section of Chery Holdings is mainly composed of Chery Automobile, EXEED Star Road, Jetway, Chery Jaguar, Chery Land Rover, Kaiyi and other brands, whose products cover entry-level to luxury products, of which Chery Automobile is the most important source of sales of Chery Holdings.

Chery sold 136000 vehicles in September, up 20.4% from a year earlier, according to the data. As we all know, 2005 was the highlight of Chery, when Chery sold more than 300000 vehicles for the first time, becoming a "handle" in China's auto industry, and set up imported and high-end car business units in the same year.

Until 2010, Chery successively launched models including Ruihu 3, Ruihu 5 and Ruihu 7, and then the product matrix gradually improved. Up to now, Chery's products include Ruihu series, Arize series and Oumengda three major product series, with positioning covering small SUV, compact SUV and medium-sized SUV, that is to say, from small SUV to medium-sized SUV, Chery has a corresponding product layout. It should be noted that in the past, the Ruihu series was the main sales force of Chery, but this situation has changed since 2023.

Take the retail sales of Carriage Association as an example. From January to August 2023, Chery sold a total of 216004 vehicles, of which the top three models were Ruihu 8, Erize 8 and Ruihu 7, with sales of 70261, 38388 and 32209 respectively. In other words, Ruihu 7 sales ranking has been replaced by Erize 8 to become another popular Chery car model.

As for Oumengda, although it is a new product line of Chery, its market sales performance is not good. According to the retail data of the Federation of passengers, Oumengda sold 3538 vehicles from January to August, including 806,782,579 from March to May respectively, and no sales data were available from June to August.

On August 20th, Chery brand's new compact SUV "Exploration 06" launched a total of four models with a price range of 116900 yuan to 139900 yuan, with a .6T engine with a maximum power of 145kW and a maximum torque of 290Nm, matching a seven-speed wet double-clutch transmission. The car jumped out of the original Ruihu family's brand-new series, and aimed at the off-road needs of young people, focusing on "light off-road". After listing, it will make up for the gap in the model layout of Chery.

Starway Motor sold 15200 vehicles in September, up 93.9% from a year earlier. As a high-end brand of Chery, Star Motor is Chery's third attempt to enter the high-end market. In November 2018, Chery officially named its new high-end brand EXEED "Xingtu". At that time, Yin Tongyue, party secretary and chairman of Chery holding Group, said: "the shortcut is Chery's Skoda, Chery is Volkswagen, and Xingtu is Chery's Audi." To this end, it also set an ambitious goal: "the Xingtu brand plans to sell 60, 000 vehicles in 2019, and will strive to achieve the sales target of 100000 vehicles." But in the end, it failed to achieve as scheduled.

At present, Xingtu Motors' products include chasing Wind Series, TX Series, TXL Series and range Moon Series. In August, the real car map of Star era ES, the first car of Xingtuo brand electric car series, was revealed that the new car will be launched in November and will compete with similar models such as BYD Han EV, Zero running C01, Nezha S, etc. At that time, Yin Tongyue, chairman of Chery holding Group, personally stood on the platform for Star era ES and once again set a sales target for Xingtuo Motor. Yin Tongyue said that next year, the combined sales of the two product lines of Xingtu and Xingera in China will be 300000 vehicles, plus about 200000 cars for export, which is conservatively said to be 500000 vehicles. In other words, Yin Tongyue has set a sales target of 500000 cars for next year.

Jettos sold 32100 vehicles in September, up 68.9% from a year earlier. Jetway Motor is a series of automobile products launched by Chery Holdings Group in January 2018. It once belonged to Kairui Automobile. At the beginning of its launch, it adopted the model strategy of high configuration and low price, and quickly relied on the Chery channel end for layout. At present, it has a series of products such as X90, X70 and so on. On Sept. 26, Jetta's new SUV Traveler officially launched, with a total of 6 models with a price range of 13.99-184900 yuan. New car positioning off-road SUV, from its positioning and price point of view, the new car may become another popular model after the Jetta X70.

Taken together, Chery, Starway and Jetta all posted good gains in September, which could further boost Chery's sales with the launch of new cars, including Chery Discovery 06, Chery eQ7 and shortcut travelers. Of course, as new energy vehicles have gradually become the main battlefield of the car market, Chery Group has also begun to accelerate the layout of new energy vehicles. According to the plan, Chery Group will launch more than 20 plug-in new cars in the future.
