Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the site launching ceremony: the first phase of the Shanghai plant is expected to be completed this summer, start production of Model 3 models by the end of the year, and mass production in 2020.

Because of the particularity of Tesla's Shanghai factory, the situation of this factory will become the focus of people's attention. This is the largest foreign investment in manufacturing in Shanghai in history, and it is also the first wholly foreign-owned new energy car company to land after China opened up the stock ratio restrictions. It took only six months to sign the contract, take the land and start the construction of Tesla in July 2018, which is the focus of the government and reflects the speed of Shanghai.

What exactly happened to Tesla's Shanghai factory in less than 4 months?

At the launching ceremony on January 7, the site of the factory was basically formed and construction was about to begin.

The steel roof grid of Tesla Shanghai Super Factory began to be hoisted on March 22nd.

On April 26, the steel structure construction project of the factory building came to an end, and the first phase of the factory basically took shape.

Judging from the photos taken, the construction speed of the factory is particularly fast, rising from a flat land in more than 100 days. According to earlier news, the Tesla factory is progressing smoothly and will carry out ground hardening treatment in June, followed by pipeline communications, equipment deployment, equipment commissioning and trial production. If there are no problems, trial production could start as early as September and some of the production lines will be officially put into production by the end of the year.

Judging from the timeline, less than 10 months have passed since the contract was signed in July last year.

Tesla Shanghai Super Factory occupies an area of more than 860000 square meters. Upon completion of the first phase of the project, the production models include Model 3 and Model Y, with a target annual production capacity of 250000 pure electric vehicles. In the follow-up construction process, the factory capacity can be increased to 500000 vehicles per year.

Most of Tesla's Shanghai factory raised funds for construction in the form of loans in China. Tesla confirmed earlier that it had reached an agreement with several banks, including China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, to obtain a loan of US $521 million (about 3.5 billion yuan) to build an automobile and battery factory in Shanghai, China, and quickly reach a production of Model 3 cars.

The price of domestic Model 3 will be greatly reduced, and the goal of mass production will be achieved next year, which will have a great impact on China's own brand cars. Xu Haidong, assistant secretary general of the China Automobile Association, said earlier, "due to Tesla's good brand effect and marketing ability, if, according to the previous plan, the annual production capacity of the Shanghai plant can reach 500000 vehicles in the future, it will intensify the competitive pressure on the entire domestic new energy vehicle market. Independent brands should take measures to enhance the competitiveness of products as soon as possible. "

With the complete withdrawal of subsidies for new energy vehicles next year, self-branded electric vehicles that have long relied on subsidies will also usher in a wave of price increases.
