In terms of appearance, the new car adopts a brand-new design style, and the overall shape is younger and fashionable. The front face is designed with a narrow bar grille and is connected with the headlights on both sides, the center is penetrated by a chrome strip, and the Volkswagen brand LOGO is embedded in the center. In addition, the new car also adjusts the shape of the front bumper, the overall shape is more exaggerated, and the visual effect is richer.

On the side of the body, the new car has smooth lines, decorated with a large number of straight lines and horizontal elements, the C-column is inclined to create a small visual effect, and the roof is equipped with a shark fin antenna with a traditional door handle design. as a whole, it looks relatively fashionable. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4990/1854/1487mm and the wheelbase is 2871mm. As a comparison, the length, width and height of Maiteng are 4866/1832/1479mm and the wheelbase is 2871mm. In contrast, the length of the new car increased by 124mm, the width increased by 22mm, the height increased by 8mm, and the wheelbase remained the same.

In the rear part, the new car adopts the through-type taillight group shape that echoes with the front face, which is similar to the Lingdu L style, and matches the red reflective strip at the bumper below to increase the visual layering, and the exhaust is a hidden layout.

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a 2.0T engine produced by Volkswagen FAW engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd., with a maximum power of 162kW. For comparison, Maiteng is currently available with 1.4T engines and 2.0T high / low power engines.

Volkswagen Maiteng originated from the closely related FutureB6 of Passat B6, which is the first B-class car produced by FAW-Volkswagen after the establishment of the plant. Starting from the B6, Volkswagen B-class cars began to be produced in FAW-Volkswagen, that is, the Magotan Maiteng series.

In July 2007, the first domestic B-class car Maiteng of FAW-Volkswagen was introduced into China. Volkswagen's seventh-generation B-class car was officially unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. In the following year, B7 continued to be introduced into China by FAW-Volkswagen and continued to be named Magotan Mai Teng. Later, in order to meet the needs of consumers for comfort, the B7 model was originally lengthened, and then it was called Maiteng B7L.

In July 2016, Maiteng, a new generation of German eighth-generation B-class cars, was officially launched, which is based on the new MQB B platform and is more stylish and sporty in design. On October 24, 2022, the millionth new car of FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng went off the line, and 2 million commemorative editions of Maiteng were officially put on the market, with a price range of 18.69-253900 yuan.

As classic models in the field of medium cars, FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng and SAIC-Volkswagen Passat are sister models to compete with Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and other medium-sized cars in the car market. Passat won the B-Class sales in 2016 and 2019, while Maiteng won the B-Class sales in 2017 and 2018, with annual sales of more than 200000 vehicles, respectively. Passat and Maiteng's market position has also been shaken to some extent with the rise of their own brands.

According to market news, SAIC-Volkswagen's new Passat will be launched in the third quarter of this year. Previously, the overseas Passat has been released, and the new Passat hatchback version will only be sold in China, but the information about the car is still very limited, and the follow-up "Automotive Industry focus" will continue to follow.

Retail data show that the Camry, Passat and Maiteng ranked in the top three of the list of medium-sized cars in 2023, with sales of 225500, 191000 and 189400 respectively. In December, the Camry, which is perennially at the top of the list, has been replaced by Maiteng and Passat, falling to third place on the list, with sales of 22700 in December, compared with 27800 and 24600, respectively.

It should be noted that Accord was launched in May last year, while the Camry will be launched in March this year, when the competition in the medium-sized car sector will be more fierce.

It is understood that for the new year's sales target, FAW-Volkswagen said it will strive to achieve the annual sales target of 190-2 million vehicles, at the same time, FAW-Volkswagen will accelerate product upgrading, including the new generation of Maiteng and golf, Audi A3 Sportback, Audi A3 limousine and other major models, by 2030, FAW-Volkswagen will launch more than 30 pure electric models. As for a number of new products, whether it can boost FAW-Volkswagen sales remains to be verified by the market.
