On December 21, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall regulations.

It is decided that from now on, a total of 25815 bZ3 electric vehicles produced between March 13 and November 9, 2023 will be recalled.

The reason for the recall is that due to the imperfect procedures of the power battery management controller for some vehicles within the scope of this recall, when the vehicles are not fully charged for many consecutive times and continue to drive at high speed, the estimated deviation of the remaining electricity is too large, and the residual charge of the power battery shown by the instrument is higher than the actual remaining charge. In extreme cases, the vehicle loses power before the warning light is charged, and there is a safety risk.

In view of the above defects, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will upgrade the control program of battery management controller for vehicles within the recall range free of charge through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology, in order to eliminate safety risks.

BZ3 is FAW Toyota's second bZ series model and the first model of cooperation between Toyota and BYD. The new car is located in a pure electric medium-sized sedan, which went on sale on March 6 this year with a price range of 16.98-199800 yuan. It is understood that the bZ3 is based on the e-TNGA platform, in which Toyota provides vehicle design and BYD provides three-power technology.

In terms of power, the bZ3 battery and motor are provided by Fudi of BYD, in which the battery uses lithium iron phosphate battery, which is 49.92kWh and 65.28kWh, respectively, and the rear single motor layout is used to provide high and low power versions for consumers to choose from. The corresponding motor power is 135kW and 180kW respectively. The CLTC mileage is 517km and 616km.

Since the launch of the new car, cumulative retail sales have totaled 24390 and wholesale sales have totaled 27242, according to the Federation of passengers. This also means that the recall of 25815 vehicles since the launch of almost all bZ3 sales, the recall of vehicles can be solved through remote upgrade (OTA) technology, that is, users do not have to go to the store to complete the recall.

It should be noted that this is the second recall since bZ3 went public.

In July this year, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. Since July 27, 2023, a total of 12205 bZ3 vehicles manufactured during the period from March 13 to July 5, 2023 have been recalled.

The reason for the recall is that there is a gap between the outer door handle and the door lock parts due to the design of the fork shape and material of the outer handle of the back door. In the environment of high temperature and high humidity, the sliding between the fork and the door lock lever may not be smooth, and the door lock lever can not be put back into position. In extreme cases, the rear door has been locked or unlocked, there is a safety risk. In view of the above defects, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will replace the improved rear door handle fork for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, and add gaskets at the same time to eliminate safety risks. FAW Toyota specially reminded that users should stop using the vehicle before the recall and repair, and contact the nearest FAW Toyota dealership for inspection and repair in time after the recall and repair begins.
