On January 31st, the official picture of Mazda's new medium-sized SUV CX-70 model was officially released. The new car, built on the same platform as CX-90, locates a 5-seat SUV and offers a 3.3T in-line six-cylinder engine, a 48-volt light hybrid system and a 2.5L plug-in hybrid system. It is expected to make its debut at this year's Beijing Auto Show.

In the rear part, the rear shape of the new car also basically continues the CX-90 design style, using the slender taillight group shape, and the rear bumper has been readjusted, and the roof spoiler assembly and wide rear enclosure enhance the visual hierarchy of the rear. In terms of size, the official has not yet released detailed parameters, it is understood that the new car wheelbase will be consistent with the CX-90, but the length is slightly shorter.

In the interior part, the new car adopts a simple design style, red and black double matching colors are used in the car, the details are treated with red stitches, and a large number of soft materials are added to cover the car, the overall texture is good. The car is equipped with a full liquid crystal meter and a suspended central control screen with a built-in Alexa voice assistant, which is more practical combined with a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel.

In terms of power, Mazda CX-70 provides fuel and plug-in power to choose from. Among them, the fuel model is equipped with 3.3L in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, maximum power 340hp, peak torque 500Nm, transmission matching 8-speed automatic transmission; plug-in model is equipped with 2.5L four-cylinder engine and motor power system, maximum power 323hp, maximum torque 500Nm, pure electric life can reach 48km. For reference, Mazda CX-90 offers a 3.3L inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine matching 48V light hybrid system, where the maximum power of the low-power 3.3L inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine is 209kW; the maximum power of the high-power 3.3liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine is 254kW.

As one of the Japanese automakers, unlike Toyota and Honda, the niche Mazda does not have a sense of presence in China, according to the official website. Changan Mazda currently sells models including CX-8, CX-5, CX-4, CX-30, CX-50, as well as Atz and Oncela. Although Changan Mazda's products are not small, but in fact most models are in a state of suspension of production and sale, including CX-4, Atez, the only one with good sales performance is Anksera.

Retail figures show that Changan Mazda sold 88564 vehicles in 2023, compared with 92748 in 2022. Among the subdivided models, the model with the highest sales volume was Onksera, which accounted for 55.80% of total sales, accounting for 55.80% of the total sales, followed by Tencent CXmuri 5 and CX-50, with sales of 17884 and 10265 respectively. The rest of the models were mediocre, such as CX-4 's annual sales of 3908, Atez's 3438, CX-30 's 2685 and CX-30 EV's 185.

However, despite its unimpressive performance in China, Changan Mazda still does not intend to give up the market, but will make great efforts to distribute it. The president of Changan Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. has previously said: "China is the most important overseas market for Mazda, and Mazda will continue to dig deep."

According to the plan, Mazda will change its product research and development model in China, launching two new energy models jointly developed by Mazda and Changan Automobile, which will be developed and produced by Changan Mazda. It is understood that Changan Mazda plans to launch two new energy models developed and produced in China by the end of 2024 and 2025, which will provide both pure electricity and plug-in power.

In terms of current market sales, Changan Mazda is extremely difficult to achieve growth with Onksera alone, which means that Changan Mazda is in urgent need of a popular model to save sales. As for the follow-up performance of the new car, there may be an answer soon.
