Toyota Motor announced on Feb. 21 that it had recalled about 280000 vehicles in the United States because of problems with its gearbox, CCTV Financial reported. It is understood that most of the models involved are pick-up trucks and sports multi-purpose models, including 2023-2024 Toyota Toyota Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX 600s.

Officials point out that these vehicles may have some parts of the gearbox that will not immediately detach when the vehicle moves to the neutral position, causing the power of the engine to be transferred to the wheels in neutral. If the driver does not hit the brakes on the flat road under such circumstances, the vehicle may inadvertently drive forward at a low speed, increasing the risk of collision. The gearbox software will be updated for customers free of charge, and all owners of recalled vehicles are expected to be notified in late April.

In addition to the above recalls, officials have announced two other recalls. One of them is due to software problems, which may prevent the rearview camera image from being displayed within the time required by US safety regulations, thus increasing the risk of collision when backing up, so 19000 vehicles will be recalled. The models involved are Mirai and Lexus LS, LC and ES models produced in North America from 2023 to 2024. In another recall, Toyota will recall about 4000 vehicles, including Camry and Camry hybrids, because the headrest of the rear folding seat increases the risk of injury in some crashes.

In fact, Toyota has conducted a number of large-scale recalls in different regions since the beginning of this year. Toyota recalled 50,000 vehicles in the United States at the end of last month because of safety risks in airbag inflators. The models involved are the 2003-2004 Corolla, the 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix and the 2004-2005 RAV4 equipped with Takata airbag inflators. Officials say that due to the long service life of these vehicles, the car's airbag inflators may explode, causing serious injury or even death. It is understood that the airbags involved are all produced by Takata Company of Japan.

In addition, in the Japanese market, Toyota announced a recall of 793300 vehicles in Japan on January 31 because of problems with body parts. The models involved are "Yaris", "Aqua" and "Sienta" produced from December 2019 to January 2024.

It is worth noting that recently, not only Toyota has conducted several large-scale recalls, but also Toyota subsidiary Dafa Motor has announced a recall of 322740 vehicles because of improper behavior in the testing experiments, and some vehicles may not meet safety standards.

Judging from the scale of several recalls, there are a large number of recalls involved each time. Although the official recall is announced, from a security point of view, it reflects a responsible attitude towards users. However, from the user's point of view, frequent large-scale recalls will inevitably reduce users' confidence in the brand.
