Related information shows that the new Prado will launch four models with a pre-sale price range of 47-570000. It is understood that the new car will be pre-sold on February 29 and open a small order (medium and low-equipped models). The high-equipped models of the Beijing Auto Show will be launched on April 25 and will be officially launched on July 16.

The new FAW Toyota Prado made its debut at the 2023 Guangzhou Motor Show. The new car is based on the TNGA-F platform. At present, the high-end non-load-bearing models of Toyota and Lexus come from this platform, including the new GX and LX of the Lexus brand, and the new Sequoia, Sequoia, Rand Cool of the Toyota brand. The platform adopts a non-load-bearing body structure, an engine vertical layout, a four-wheel drive distributor with torque amplification, a Tolson central differential and a P2 hybrid system, which is characterized by lighter body weight, stronger rigidity and better comfort. Stronger off-road ability, but also brings hybrid technology.

In terms of appearance, the new Prado will offer two designs, which are divided into rectangular headlamp ordinary version and round 1958 classic version. The overall outline of the rectangular headlamp version is somewhat similar to Lexus GX, the center of the smoked air intake grille is marked by "TOYOTA" English LOGO, the grille is decorated with silver frame and a large area of black, forming two areas up and down, and the interior of the grille is also a square grid-shaped structure, with a silver lower guard plate, the visual impact is still very sufficient.

The boxy side of the car looks a lot like the new Lexus GX, black anti-friction panels and rugged wheel arches are designed to consolidate Prado's off-road image. In the rear part, the new car does not use the popular through taillight design, the square headlights on both sides still retain the original off-road flavor, the silver trim on the rear still uses the word TOYOTA as the tail mark, and there is a black car name on the left. In addition, although the rear door of the trunk is opened up, the independently opened rear windshield is still retained, while the full-size spare tire is set at the back of the chassis.

FAW Toyota new Prado does not have an open interior part, but with reference to overseas models, the overall design of the new Prado is more hard and retro, with a large number of physical buttons in the car from the steering wheel to the central control area, which once again emphasizes the pragmatism of Japanese cars. it is equipped with a new multi-purpose steering wheel and circular air conditioning air outlet, and the 12.3-inch suspended central control screen will be equipped with Toyota's latest entertainment system. In the lower shift lever area, you can see that it is equipped with electronic handbrake, automatic parking, rear axle differential lock and four-wheel drive system switch lever.

In terms of power, the new Prado will be equipped with an i-FORCE MAX light hybrid system composed of 2.4T turbocharged engine and motor as the main configuration (for North American and Chinese markets), with a combined maximum power of 330hp (243kW) and a maximum torque of 630Nm. The transmission system will match the 8-speed hand-integrated gearbox and will be equipped with full-time all-wheel drive, transfer box, central differential lock and so on. In addition, the new car will also provide 2.4T low power engine, 2.8T diesel engine, 2.8T diesel engine + 48V light hybrid and 2.7L V6 naturally aspirated engine for consumers to choose from in overseas markets.

More than three years have passed since the last domestic Prado went offline in 2020, and now this classic off-road vehicle has returned to the Chinese market, and whether it can be recognized by the Chinese people again. According to the plan, domestic Prado will be put into production in 2024, with an annual production capacity of 36000 vehicles and an average monthly production capacity of 3000 units, which does not rule out the situation that supply exceeds demand after the whole Prado is made in China, which will lead to a price increase again.

In the three years since Prado left China, the market has changed dramatically, and many Chinese brands have set their sights on this market. At the 2023 Guangzhou Motor Show, we also saw many hard-line SUVs, such as the Great Wall Tank brand Tank 700, equation Panther 5, the new Beijing BJ40, etc., in addition, Jiangling Ford will also introduce Liema Bronco, although the positioning of these models is still different from the new Prado, it does give consumers more choices. Therefore, after Prado re-enters the Chinese market, there are still many unknowns.

From the cross-country level, the new Prado is still a "strongest" competitor. Whether it is the brand heritage of the Toyota brand or the technical background of the Prado global model, Prado still has the strength to become a "soul" model. However, with the increasing volume of Chinese brands, some brands are deepening their technology in the field of new energy, as well as the continuous iterative upgrading of products in the cross-country circle. Chinese brand products better understand the needs of Chinese consumers, and their strength can not be ignored. It remains to be seen whether Prado can regain its strength after re-entering the market.
