It is decided that from now on, some of the 2023-2024 domestic Polar Star 4 pure electric models produced from November 29, 2023 to February 1, 2024 will be recalled, totaling 1867.

The reason for the recall is that some vehicles within the scope of the recall may trigger brake control downgrade due to software problems of the brake controller, resulting in the failure of braking electronic assist and other functions, the weakening of braking efficiency, and the existence of safety risks. If the user encounters the failure of the braking system indicated by the vehicle instrument, it is recommended to maintain the safe distance of the vehicle and increase the brake pedal force during braking.

In view of the above defects, Star Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology; for vehicles that cannot be upgraded through OTA technology, Star Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will actively contact relevant users to upgrade vehicles free of charge to eliminate security risks.

Polestar is an independent high-end electric car brand jointly established by Volvo and Geely. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, it mainly competes with Tesla in the car market. So far, Polar has launched Polestar 1, Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4, Polestar 5, Polestar 6. Among them, Polestar 4 is the second SUV model under Ji Xing Automobile, which is based on Geely Holdings' SEA architecture. It went on sale at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show with a price range of 34.98-533800 yuan, and then announced its new rights and interests at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show. In terms of appearance, compared with its star car series, the Polestar 4 design is full of technology and future, with a unique star intake grille and L-shaped lamp groups on both sides. On the side of the body, Polestar 4 uses a slippery back shape with smooth lines, using popular hidden door handles, rimless doors and rimless outer rearview mirrors, the overall visual effect is full of power. In terms of interior decoration, Polestar 4 uses a simple design style. Except for a knob, the central control can provide up to 4 display systems in the car, including 10.2inch driver instrument screen, 15.4inch horizontal central control screen, 14.7inch (projection size) W-HUD head display and 5.7inch rear central control screen. The central control system is based on Meizu car system, and UI is designed by Polar Star. In terms of power, Polestar 4 offers single-motor version and dual-motor version for users to choose from, dual-motor version is equipped with front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motor (front and rear 200kW) with a maximum torque of 686Nm; single-motor version is equipped with rear permanent magnet synchronous motor with maximum power of 200kW and maximum torque of 343Nm.

According to the data, the cumulative global sales of Star cars increased by 6% to 54600 units in 2023 compared with the same period last year. It should be noted that unlike other Geely brands, Star Motors mainly focuses on overseas markets, and the Chinese market is not very popular. Polar Motors has hardly announced its sales performance in the Chinese market.

It is reported that the sales of Star cars in China were 2048 in 2021, 1717 in 2022 and 1100 in 2023, down 34% from the same period last year, a far cry from the mainstream car companies in the market. Industry insiders believe that the key reason for the poor sales of Polaris in China is that it places too much emphasis on performance and cannot match its positioning with domestic users. The price of its products ranges from 20 to 1.5 million, which is on the high side compared with most of the new car-building forces in China. For Polar Star, if it can not quickly make changes in its products to adapt to the Chinese market, then it does not rule out the possibility of being eliminated by the market.
