AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)05/11 Report--
According to foreign media reports, Ford focus will officially stop production overseas in 2025, and the Sal Louis plant in Germany will also be closed in November 2025, followed by the launch of the Fox pure electric version.
Data show that the first-generation Ford focus was officially launched in 1998 and the second-generation focus was launched in 2004, which is the best-selling compact car under Ford. As a Ford joint venture in China, Changan Ford introduced the European focus into the domestic market in 2005, launching hatchback and hatchback models, powered by 1.8L and 2.0L engines. March 2012, the third generation of Changan Ford focus officially launched, this generation of models created the peak of Fox, has won the annual car sales crown in 2012-2014, beating Xuanyi, Lang Yi, Carola and other popular cars. However, all this came to an abrupt end after the 2018 upgrade.
November 8, 2018, the new generation of Changan Ford focus officially launched, the new car launched 1.5L, 1.0T and 1.5T power versions, all using three-cylinder engine. The maximum power is 122 horsepower, 127 horsepower and 184 horsepower, and the maximum torque is 153N m, 173N m and 243N m, respectively. Since then, Fox fell out of the top of the sales list and never recovered. According to the FIFA retail data, the cumulative sales of Fox in 2021 was only 22500, and the monthly sales remained at the level of 2000.
In June 2022, at the 2022 Chongqing Auto Show, the new focus was officially launched, with a total of four models with a price range of 119800-145800 yuan. As a medium-term revamped model, the biggest highlight of the new car is mainly reflected in power. The new car cancels the 1.5L and 1.5T three-cylinder engines of the old model, and is replaced with a 1.5T four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 8AT gearbox of the old model is also replaced by a 6AT gearbox, with maximum power 130kW (177hp) and maximum torque 243N ·m.
However, after the replacement of the four-cylinder engine, the Fox does not have a great sense of existence. In 2022, the focus sold 16523 cars in China. In 2023, 4012 vehicles were sold in the whole year. Although the focus is still on the list, it has actually been discontinued, with monthly sales declining in 2023 and no sales figures since 2024, according to Ford's website.
According to the plan, all models sold by Ford in Europe will be electrified by 2030 and all models on the global market by 2035. According to its planning and the latest information, Ford may launch the pure electric version of Fox in the future, continuing the classic model symbol of Fox. It is worth mentioning that Ford will also invest in the Cologne plant in Germany to transform it into an electrification center in Cologne, which aims to produce 1.2 million electric vehicles over the next five years.
In recent years, more and more classic models have ushered in the last life node in the electrification wave. On April 4, the Ford Mondeo ended production in the European market, and the last Mondeo went offline at the factory in Valencia. A few days ago, GM announced that the Chevrolet Malibu will officially stop production in November 2024. After nine generations of updates and global sales of more than 10 million vehicles, the Chevrolet Bolt assembly line will be replaced by the Chevrolet Bolt after the suspension of production at the Fairfax plant in Kansas.
