On May 15, BYD SHARK made its debut and went on sale. The new car sells for 899980-969800 Mexican pesos in Mexico, about 38.66-416500 yuan. It is understood that BYD SHARK is based on the DMO platform, using 1.5T engine + front and rear dual motor power system, competitors including Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, etc., will be sold in the Americas, Australia and other places in the future, it is not clear whether the car will be launched in China.

In terms of appearance, the front face of BYD SHARK adopts an integrated design style, and the overall design style is relatively rugged. There is a large size "BYD" logo inside the front grille, the outline of the front face is outlined by C-shaped daily lights and through-type light belts on both sides, the upper end is connected by through-type light belts, the front is surrounded by millimeter wave radar, and below is a silver shield, which looks like a very good aura as a whole. However, this set of design is still quite common in pickup models, lacking some surprises.

On the side of the body, the BYD SHARK is equipped with black eyebrows, surround, roof rack and gantry to enhance the off-road atmosphere, and the C-pillar is blackened to create a suspended roof to enhance a certain sense of fashion. In addition, the car adopts a conventional styling door handle and a square outer rearview mirror, which provides a fixed side pedal, a gantry and a roof luggage rack, and the charging port and refueling port are respectively located under both sides of the gantry frame.

On the rear side, BYD SHARK is also equipped with large-size BYD brand LOGO, with vertical taillight sets and through-type light belts, echoing with the front of the car. In terms of interior decoration, BYD SHARK adopts a design style similar to that of equation Leopard 5, retaining BYD's classic rotatable 12.8inch central control screen, a new style of four-spoke steering wheel with a 10.25inch liquid crystal meter, a 12-inch W-HUD head display, an air conditioning outlet and an orange stitch inside the car, and the sub-instrument desk area is consistent with that of Leopard 5. In terms of power, BYD SHARK is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of a 1.5T engine and a motor, in which the front motor has a maximum power of 170kW (231 horsepower) and a peak torque of 310Nm, and the rear motor has a maximum power of 150kW (204hp) and a peak torque of 340Nm. Its 0-100km/h acceleration time is 5.7s, low power fuel consumption 7.5L/100km, full power fuel consumption 1.536L/100km, battery capacity 29.58kWhrecoverNEDC pure electric battery life 100km, comprehensive battery life 840km.

BYD SHARK uses front and rear double wishbone independent suspension, non-load-bearing body structure, CTC battery chassis integration technology and virtual differential lock, which can provide three driving modes: sand, mud and snow, with the traction capacity of 2500kg, the load capacity of 835kg and supporting V2L external discharge function. In terms of energy replenishment, using 40kW fast charging can complete 30% and 80% of the energy replenishment in 20 minutes.

BYD SHARK will be a key pawn for BYD to go to sea. Mexico is a big exporter of Chinese cars, second only to Russia in export volume in the first quarter of 2024, including SAIC, Chery, Guangzhou Automobile, Great Wall, Chang'an and Geely and other Chinese brands have entered the market. Earlier, according to media reports, BYD was considering setting up a new electric car factory in Mexico.

Judging from the current situation, BYD SHARK is mainly sold in overseas markets, but there are no plans to go public in the domestic market. Overseas markets, BYD SHARK competitors include Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and other models. Compared with the above two models, the BYD SHARK has larger body size, higher configuration and better fuel economy, but the brand awareness is mediocre.

In the past two years, in order to achieve the sales target, BYD has released the look up, equation Leopard brand, from the hard cross-country, pure electric supercar and other product layout. At present, the models BYD sells overseas are mainly passenger cars, and commercial vehicles are actually a major model in the American market, but there are very few independent brands except Great Wall cars.
