When BMW, GM, Ford and Honda popularized three-cylinder engines in China, the market feedback was not very friendly, but now Toyota also boldly uses three-cylinder engines. FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Auto Toyota 1.5L naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine production project has long been approved. Among them, FAW Toyota is building the TNGA1.5L engine project, which is located in Tianjin FAW Toyota engine Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 1.21 billion yuan. It is planned to start construction in May this year, and it will be officially completed and put into production in May 2020. It will produce 108000 TNGA1.5L engines annually. At the same time, it will also reduce the annual production capacity of 1.2T engines by 108000 units, and the final total production capacity will remain unchanged.

At the same time, GAC Toyota has upgraded its existing AR engine to an M15C engine, that is, a 1.5L naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine, and plans to put into production the M15C engine from July 2020, with an initial capacity of 108000 units per year. The remaining 192000 units per year will be transformed in the follow-up project, resulting in the annual production of 300000 M15C engines and 726000 engines per year in the whole plant.

FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Auto Toyota 1.5L naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine power parameters are the same, the maximum power is 87kW, peak torque 146Nm, and can meet the national six emission standards, using three-cylinder structure, natural intake form, in-cylinder direct injection technology, the compression ratio increased to 13:1.

The old 1.5L four-cylinder engine has been replaced and the 1.2T engine capacity has been reduced, which means that the new Toyota M15C three-cylinder self-priming engine will become the main power of Toyota's compact cars in China and SUV in the future, including more models such as Wechi, Zhixuan, Carola / Liling, etc., or the powertrain will be replaced on new models.
