Retail sales in the domestic passenger car market were 1.767 million in June 2024, down 6.7 per cent from a year earlier and an increase of 3.1 per cent month-on-month, according to the Federation of passengers. Among them, car sales were 789000, down 12.1% from the same period last year, and the month-on-month growth was flat. According to the top15 list of medium-sized cars sold in June by Automotive Industry concern, there were more than 10,000 models sold in June, including Model 3, Qin L DM-i, Passat, Maiteng, BMW 3-Series, Camry, Accord, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Red Flag H5, Audi A4L.

Compared with May, the number of models with sales of more than 10,000 vehicles has significantly increased, and the ranking of models has changed significantly. For reference, a total of seven models sold more than 10,000 vehicles in May, namely Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Passat, Model 3, BMW 3 Series, Accord, Maiteng and Red Flag H5.

Going back to the latest sales list in June, Model 3 returned to the top of the list with sales of 18151 vehicles in June. As a medium-sized car, Model 3 did well in the car market, but the contribution of Model 3 to Tesla's total sales in China is far less than that of Tesla Model Y (41110 in June, accounting for 69.37% of total sales of 59261).

In second place was the BYD Qin L DM-i, which sold 18021 vehicles in June. It is worth mentioning that the car is a new car newly launched by BYD. On May 28th, at the fifth-generation DM technology press conference of BYD, Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i equipped with fifth-generation DM technology were officially put on the market. The two new cars were delivered immediately and adopted the strategy of two cars at the same price. They all launched five models with a price range of 99800 yuan to 139800 yuan. At that time, some people in the industry said that the launch of the two models would further squeeze the market space of joint venture fuel cars, and that was indeed the case in terms of June sales. Seal 06 DM-i and Seal DM-i also made it into the top 15 in June, with sales of 7625 and 7325, respectively.

German duo Volkswagen Passat and Maiteng sold 17097 and 14165 vehicles in June, respectively, ranking third and fourth on the list. Passat's performance in the car market is still worse. Yesterday night, the new FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng officially launched, the new car launched a total of three models, the price range of 17.99-246900 yuan, compared with the old model of 18.69-253900 yuan, the price has been reduced. It is understood that the new Maiteng based on the Volkswagen MQB-B platform, using new interior and appearance design, and equipped with DJI intelligent driving program, the power is equipped with a 1.5T engine, canceling the old 1.4T engine. Passat also appeared on the declaration list of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in April and is expected to go public in the third quarter. As a replacement model, whether it is the Passat or Maiteng, as a new generation of models, the new car uses a new appearance, the overall more fashionable, new car sales may be further improved after the launch.

The BMW 3 Series ranked fifth on the list, with sales of 13461 vehicles. In addition, in the BBA luxury brand camp, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4L are among the top 10. Among them, Mercedes-Benz C-Class sales of 11900 vehicles, ranked eighth, Audi A4L 10744 vehicles, ranked 10th. Judging from the performance of model sales in June, the BMW 3-Series surpassed the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It is worth mentioning that the Mercedes-Benz C-Class topped the list many times in the first half of this year, becoming the top-selling medium-sized car model, with sales of 20700 vehicles in March and 17000 in May.

In the Japanese midsize sedan camp, the Camry and Accord sold 12281 and 11964 cars respectively in June, ranking sixth and seventh on the list, while Teana, both of the top three in Japan, fell out of the top 15, with sales of 5511 in June.

Red Flag H5 also sold more than 10,000 vehicles in June, with 11133 vehicles, ranking ninth on the list. In addition, another red flag model, the red flag E-QM5, entered the 11th place with sales of 8858 vehicles. Compared with other Red Flag models, the Red Flag H5 is located in a younger group and sold at a more popular price, which is why it can become one of the representatives of autonomous medium-sized cars.

In addition to the above models, BMW i3 and Deep Blue SL03 also entered the top 15, with sales of 6952 and 6221 respectively. Among them, the BMW i3 is a medium-sized pure electric car owned by BMW brilliance, which was launched in March 2023. The car can be regarded as the pure electric version of the BMW 3 series, which is produced in the BMW factory of brilliance and sold only in the Chinese market. At present, there are three models of eDrive 35L, modified eDrive 40 L Sunday night suit and modified eDrive 40 L Sunday night sports suit, with a price range of 353900-413900 yuan. In June, the topic of big price cuts by BMW rushed to the top of the Weibo hot search list, with a 50% discount on BMW i3 models, with prices nearly halved, including 4S stores in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. After the discount, the number of naked cars was more than 170000, with a big discount.
