FAW Toyota's new Asian Dragon was officially launched on July 12, with a total of nine models, including the fuel version and the twin engine version, which range from RMB 19.98 to RMB 244800 and RMB 279800 to RMB respectively. As a replacement model, the new Asian Dragon is based on Toyota TNGA-K platform and is mainly adjusted for appearance and interior.

Although it is a new generation model, the design style of the new Asian dragon is still too changed. it will provide two kinds of front face design, the main difference is the forward air grille, and the 2.5L model will be modeled with a star drill grill. the large-size grille with internal diamond format elements, let it bring a good visual sense. The 2.0L model uses a highlight modular grille, and the addition of dense spoke horizontal trim appropriately stretches the horizontal visual effect of the car, making it look more atmospheric.

On the side of the body, the new Asian dragon uses a rich waistline design, with slightly raised wheel eyebrow lines and a new shape of 19-inch rims to enhance the overall sense of movement of the vehicle. In the rear part, the new car uses the horizon penetrating taillight group, with the central LOGO, the recognition degree is higher. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4990/1850/1450mm and the wheelbase is 2870mm, which is consistent with the cash.

In terms of interior decoration, the new Asian dragon offers brown and black interior colors, especially brown, which looks very retro. Of course, FAW Toyota has also made efforts to create a sense of science and technology, such as a 12-inch full liquid crystal meter and a 12.3-inch suspended central control screen, as well as an AR HUD look-up display. At the same time, the new car was replaced with a crown with the same three-frame steering wheel. It is worth mentioning that the new Asian Dragon will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, the operation fluency of the car-machine system has been significantly improved compared with the eighth generation model, and the intelligent voice interaction system will also be comprehensively enhanced to provide users with a more convenient human-computer interaction experience.

In terms of power, according to the information declared by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new Asian Dragon will provide three power versions. The maximum engine power of the newly added 2.0L hybrid version is 112 kilowatts, and the 2.0L fuel version is 127 kilowatts. The maximum engine power of the 2.5L hybrid model is 136 kilowatts.

The AVALON is a car specially designed by Toyota for the American market, which meets the requirements of Americans. It is favored by overseas consumers with its advantages of low cost and high performance. The first and second generations of AVALON are also imported to China.

The first generation of AVALON was born in 1994, based on the XV10 platform, equipped with a 3.0 LV6 engine code-named 1MZ-FE, with a maximum power of 192 horsepower and a maximum torque of 285Nm. The second generation of AVALON was launched in 1999 and was built on the XV20 platform. The third-generation AVALON, born in 2005, is the product of the K-series platform of the pioneer model, with a 3.6L V6 engine with a maximum power of 280hp and a maximum torque of 336Nm. In 2012, the fourth generation of AVALON launched, the overall design style is completely different from the previous three generations, this generation is also a more familiar generation, equipped with 3.5L engine.

In March 2019, FAW Toyota introduced the fifth generation AVALON to China for production, and named it "Asian Dragon". The new car is based on Toyota's TNGA architecture and is positioned as a medium-sized sedan, which is regarded by FAW Toyota as its flagship model, filling the gap in the market after the suspension of Ruizhi and Crown. Compared with its sister Camry, Asian Dragon pays more attention to personalization and sense of control.

Although the fifth generation of Asian dragons was officially introduced into China, the glorious history of Asian dragons began to be written in the American market on the other side of the ocean as early as 1994. Since the first generation of models, the Asian Dragon has been built on the basis of the Camry chassis, and this identity has not changed even in the TNGA era-the new Asian Dragon is the second car product born on the GA-K platform of Toyota's TNGA architecture, while the first and third models are the eighth generation Camry and the seventh generation Lexus ES, respectively, sharing chassis structure and multiple powertrain. Among them, the wheelbase and body size of the Asian dragon are similar to those of the Lexus ES. As a result, the Asian dragon is also regarded as a sister model of the Camry, just like the Accord-Ersi and Passat-Maiteng, except that there is a bigger difference between the Camry and the Asian dragon.

As a medium-sized car under the Toyota brand, Asian Dragon has many competitors in the Chinese market, in addition to the newly replaced sister model Camry, it also includes Volkswagen Maiteng / Passat, Honda Accord / Yingshi School, Nissan Teana, Hyundai Sonata, Buick LaCrosse, Ford Mondeo and so on, which are the most direct competitors of Asian Dragon. Retail data show that the medium-sized car with the highest sales in the second half of the year is the Passat, which is about to be replaced, with fewer than 100000 other models, including 76200 sister models, 66300 Accord and 60500 Camry, respectively. These two models have also just been replaced, while Asian Dragon sales are relatively mediocre, with only 27500, ranking 19th on the list of medium-sized cars.

As independent brands accelerate the layout of new energy vehicles, traditional fuel medium-sized cars are also facing great challenges. Not long ago, it was rumored that the Camry, which had just been replaced by a new generation, has been offered a discount of 120000 because of its low sales. Although the credibility of this price is not high after inquiry, there is no doubt about the challenges faced by Camry and other medium-sized cars in the Chinese market. Accord, Teana and other once popular medium-sized cars have plummeted their competitiveness after entering 2024.

Return to the new Asian dragon, its sister model Camry has just been replaced, sales are general and end-market discounts are large, while Asian dragon sales are far lower than Camry and other medium-sized cars. Those who can really choose Asian dragons are more likely to like the purity of fuel cars and trust in Toyota brands, but with the increasing influence of Chinese brands in the new energy market, the advantages of these two aspects are slowly weakening. if the new Asian dragon wants to maintain its edge in the midsize car market, the key depends on the price. If you start with 130000, you don't have to think about Maiteng to be very popular; if you start with 150000, you should be able to sell very well; if you start with 170000, you'd better wait for sales to be difficult and sell the car at a lower price.
