AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/24 Report--

It is reported that Mazda has registered a new brand LOGO and English logo in Japan, Australia, the United States and other markets. Combined with the brand logo, compared with the current LOGO, although the overall framework change is not particularly obvious, but a lot of adjustments have been made in the details.

Specifically, the new LOGO cancels the texture design of the metal surface and is replaced by a black-and-white color match and a flatter styling design, with sharper internal and external lines. In addition, the new LOGO English logo has also been adjusted, the letters are in a new font, and all uppercase and lowercase letters are adjusted to the uppercase letter "MAZDA", making the overall vision more concise.

Reviewing the development history of Mazda's car logo, this is the 16th time in the history of Mazda to replace a new car logo. Public data show that the development process of Mazda can start from the cork manufacturing business at the beginning of its establishment. ‌ Motor Co., Ltd. was founded in 1920. Mazda was originally named "Press Kyogo" and later renamed Toyo Cork Industry Co., Ltd., and was first registered as Toyo Cork Industry Company in 1920. It was not until 1984 that Mazda officially changed its name to Mazda.

In 1954, ‌ began to use capital letters to mark "MAZDA" and was integrated into blue-and-white tones; in 1959, the ‌ Mazda logo was marked with a white circle and a small red frame, with a handwritten lowercase "m" in the ‌ and the "MAZDA" logo displayed under the ‌; in 1991, the ‌ Mazda logo added a diamond element symbolizing sunshine and innovation, and the ‌ was surrounded by a blue oval with the uppercase and lowercase letter "Mazda" displayed below. In 1992, the ‌ Mazda logo was slightly adjusted so that the ‌ shape was thinner and rounder, while the ‌ color and font remained the same. ‌

‌‌ and Mazda first introduced the "M" shape logo, which dates back to 1997, which uses a wing-shaped V-shaped pattern to intersect the oval, thus forming an "M" shape. In 2015, ‌ Mazda fine-tuned the logo with little effect, only lightening the "M" shape and the letters below, and using blue strokes in English fonts. ‌ in 2018, the blue outline of the ‌ Mazda logo was changed to black, and ‌ is still in use today.

In contrast, the change of this logo is very obvious, especially the flat design style, which is more in line with the current development trend of LOGO design. In fact, in recent years, more and more car companies have "flattened" the LOGO, including multinational car companies such as Volkswagen, BMW, Nissan, Skoda, Kia, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, GM, Audi, as well as independent brands such as Changan, Geely, BYD, FAW Pentium, etc. have updated the brand LOGO, and almost all of them have been "flattened". Now flattening has become a major trend.

Generally speaking, a large part of the factor of updating brand LOGO is to show the new brand image and transmit brand value. However, as of press time, officials have not disclosed the specific use of the new brand logo, nor is it clear whether it will be carried on the new model. According to reports, the new trademark was applied for registration by Mazda Motor Co., Ltd. in Japan and is expected to be carried on Mazda's EZ-6 and ARATA models. Among them, MAZDA EZ-6 is a new energy car jointly developed by Mazda and Changan Automobile, which is based on Changan EPA platform and provides pure electricity and extended range power system. It was first unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. On July 17th, Changan Mazda announced that EZ-6 was officially offline at its Nanjing plant and is expected to go public in September this year.

As one of the first car brands to enter the Chinese market, Mazda has been in the Chinese market for 32 years, but compared with Toyota and Honda, Mazda has a more niche position and a more difficult situation in China.

Retail data show that Changan Mazda sold 88564 vehicles in 2023, compared with 36700 in the first half of 2024, with the highest sales of the Onksera at 18298, followed by CX-5 with 13788, while CX-50 and CX-30 sold 4163 and 494respectively. In terms of model sales data, there are no popular models under Mazda at present.

According to the plan, the transformation strategy of the electrified era of Mazda will be carried out in three steps: the development oriented to the electrified era will be strengthened in 2024, pure electric models will be first put into the Chinese market in 2025-2027, and pure electric vehicles will be officially introduced in 2028-2030. Transition to the electrified era. According to the plan, Changan Mazda will launch two new models codenamed J90A and J90A-REEV in 2024. Among them, codenamed J90A means EZ-6,EZ means that Mazda's new energy products will have a new naming system; Changan Mazda will launch two new cars codenamed J90K and J90K-REEV in 2025; and NEW SUV and NEW CAR in 2026.
