AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/31 Report--

Tesla will recall 1.8496 million electric vehicles in the United States because the vehicle software cannot detect the unlocked hood, which may cause the unlocked hood to suddenly open while driving, blocking the driver's view and increasing the risk of a collision, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The models involved in the recall are Model 3, Model S and Model X manufactured from 2021 to 2024 and Model Y from 2020 to 2024. Tesla said that so far three reports have been received on the problem, but there have been no reports of related crashes or casualties.

In response to Tesla's recall, NHTSA said Tesla had released a remote car upgrade software update to address the problem, which could detect whether the hood was open and alert the driver. It is understood that the affected car owners will receive a notification letter from Tesla before September 22, 2024.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Tesla has launched a large-scale recall in the United States. In February this year, Tesla also conducted a large-scale recall in the United States because the fonts of brake, parking and anti-lock brake warning lights on the vehicle dashboard were smaller than the requirements of federal safety standards, or making important safety information difficult for drivers to find, increasing the risk of vehicle collisions. The vehicles involved in the recall are Model S from 2012 to 2023, Model X from 2016 to 2023, Model 3 from 2017 to 2023, Model Y from 2019 to 2024 and Cybertruck from 2024. Officials say the recalled vehicles will be resolved through online software updates.

At the end of January, because a problem with the vehicle's rearview camera software may cause image display problems, affecting the driver's rear field of vision and increasing the vehicle safety risk, Tesla recalled 199575 vehicles in the United States, including 2023 Model S, Model X and Model Y models. Officials say OTA software updates have been released to fix the problem. Time pushed forward. On December 13 last year, Tesla had safety risks because he was equipped with FSD Beta fully autopilot software or there was no way to ensure that drivers would still keep enough attention when the system started autopilot. Tesla recalled more than 2.03 million vehicles in the United States, involving the 2012-2023 Model S, the 2016-2023 Model X, the 2017-2023 Model 3 and the 2020-2023 Model Y. At the time, officials said the problem would be resolved through OTA later.

In addition to Tesla's recent frequent recalls in the US market, the Chinese market also announced large-scale recalls in January this year. The recall was due to problems such as door unlocking logic control and automatic auxiliary steering. 1.6176 million vehicles were recalled in China, covering both imported and domestic models. Officials say they will upgrade software or push newly developed features for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge through car remote upgrade (OTA) technology. Last month, due to the abnormal occupancy function of the driver's seat, 5836 vehicles were recalled in China because the seat belt warning device could not issue a warning sound or visual warning after the vehicle was started and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The models involved are some imported Model 3, Model S and Model X models manufactured during the period from January 12, 2019 to April 26, 2024.

From Tesla's recent frequent recalls, we can see that they were all solved through OTA technology. This operation is indeed more convenient than the traditional upgrade to the store, and for enterprises, it can also reduce the cost of recall. But too frequent recalls will inevitably have a certain impact on the reputation of the brand.
