As a new generation of models, we can still feel the strong family style of Volkswagen, but we can still see the efforts made by Volkswagen in detail. In terms of appearance, the new Maiteng adopts a new family design style, and the new matrix headlamp internal light belt is integrated with the front grid light belt, and the central Volkswagen brand LOGO can be lit, with the through-type lamp belt on both sides, which has a great improvement in science and technology. In addition, under the front of the car is also equipped with a large-size diversion groove shape, and decorated with black panels, the overall front face shape in calm to add a lot of sports flavor, compared with the once business stable temperament, more inclined to the aesthetic preferences of young users.

On the side of the car body, the new Mai Teng is based on straight and smooth lines, and the styling design of the waistline and door makes the whole car more layered. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4990/1854/1487mm, and the wheelbase is 2871mm, which is 124mm higher than that of the old model, and the wheelbase does not change. In the rear part of the car, a penetrating taillight is added to the rear part to illuminate the LOGO to echo with the front face, and the reflective strip running through the lower part can broaden the visual effect.

Interior decoration is the focus of the upgrade of the new Maiteng. The high-end model will be equipped with 15-inch central control screen, 11.6-inch co-driver screen, 10.25-inch LCD instrument three screens, 8155 chip, iFLYTEK intelligent voice system and so on. The sense of technology is significantly higher than that of Maiteng. In addition, the top model will be equipped with DJI intelligent driving system, supporting IQ. Pilot intelligent driving assistance and L2 + autopilot support adaptive cruising, lane maintenance, lane change, emergency plug handling and so on. The seats in the car are also optimized, the front seats are supported by legs, and the overall fillings are more adequate, but functions such as heating and ventilation may need to be selected.

On the power side, the new Mai Teng offers two power systems: the 1.5T turbocharged four-cylinder engine D5V with a maximum power of 160hp (118kW) and peak torque 250Nm; and the 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine EA888-DTJ with a maximum power of 220hp (162kW) and peak torque of 350Nm; the driveline all match the seven-speed wet double-clutch transmission.

Maiteng is the first B-class car launched by FAW-Volkswagen after the establishment of the plant. In July 2007, a model named "Magotan Maiteng" was officially launched, codenamed PASSAT B6, with the original German body size. In July 2011, the new generation Mai Teng officially announced in China, code PASSAT B7, providing 1.4T, 1.8T, 2.0T and 3.0L displacement, in order to meet the needs of consumers for comfort, its wheelbase has increased 100mm compared with the previous generation model. In July 2016, the new generation of Maiteng, code-named PASSAT B8, was officially launched, based on the new MQB B platform, eliminating the 3.0L power of the previous generation model and further adding 59mm to the wheelbase. PASSAT B9, the main change of the new car lies in the interior design, using central control screen + co-driver screen + LCD instrument three screens, and using iFLYTEK intelligent voice system and DJI intelligent driving system, the overall sense of science and intelligence has been significantly improved, while the power side is equipped with 1.5T engine to cancel the old 1.4T engine, keeping the wheelbase consistent.

With the rapid and serious development of new energy, the medium-sized car market seems to be the last city of traditional fuel vehicles. From January to June 2024 sales, in the medium-sized car market, sister model Passat is the best-selling medium-sized car, Maiteng is 76200, ranking fourth, Accord and Camry are 66300 and 60500 respectively. Of course, behind the seemingly solid market position, there are actually more unexpected price concessions. The Camry, which has just completed its replacement, is rumored to have been offered a discount of about 120000 yuan because of poor sales. This will also be a big test for the new Maiteng market.

At the same time, with the development of domestic new energy, the line between pure fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles is gradually blurred. Consumers are more concerned about who can give more at the same price, such as BYD Han, Deep Blue SL03 and Galaxy E8, these models are located medium and large vehicles, but the overall price range coincides with Maiteng, because these models have greater advantages in fuel economy. The sense of technology and intelligent experience is also better, these two major aspects of the new Maiteng can not take advantage. Therefore, those who can really choose Maiteng are more likely to like the purity of fuel cars and trust in Volkswagen brands, but with the increasing influence of Chinese brands in the new energy market, the advantages of these two aspects are also slowly weakening. if the new Maiteng wants to maintain its edge in the midsize car market, the key depends on the price. If you start with 130000, you don't have to think about Maiteng to be very popular; if you start with 150000, you should be able to sell very well; if you start with 170000, you'd better wait for sales to be difficult and sell the car at a lower price.
