Retail sales in the domestic passenger car market were 1.72 million in July 2024, down 2.8 per cent from a year earlier and 2.6 per cent month-on-month, according to the Federation of passengers. Among them, the number of cars was 788000, down 6.6% from the same period last year and 0.1% from the previous month.
According to the July top15 list of medium-sized sedan sales counted by "Automotive Industry concern", there were more than 10,000 models sold in July, namely, Qin L DM, Seal 06, Passat, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Camry, Maiteng, BMW 3-Series, Red Flag H5, Accord.
Since the launch of BYD's Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i models, the ranking of medium-sized sedan sales has been reshuffled again! In July, Qin L DM and Seal 06 ranked first and second on the list with 32466 and 21659 respectively. For comparison, Biadiqin L DM-i sold 18021 vehicles in June, ranking second on the list, while Seal 06 DM-i had 7625.
On May 28th, at the fifth-generation DM technology conference of BYD, Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i equipped with fifth-generation DM technology were put on the market, and the new cars were delivered immediately. Using the strategy of two cars at the same price, they all launched five models with a price range of 99800 yuan to 139800 yuan. At the time of the launch of the new car, many people in the industry said that the listing of the two models will further squeeze the market space of the joint venture fuel sedan. Judging from the current sales situation, the two new cars have successfully reshuffled the ranking of medium-sized cars.
As new cars that have been on the market for less than three months, in terms of the current sales performance of new cars, the two new cars have become a new growth point for BYD, which is undoubtedly a success for BYD. at the same time, it also shows the consumer recognition of the car on the other hand.
In addition to the above two new cars, BYD Seal DM also entered the list top15, with sales of 6729 vehicles in July, which will further help BYD achieve its annual sales target with the help of Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i.
Returning to the list, the top three models included SAIC-Volkswagen Passat, which sold 20003 vehicles in July. However, its sister model, the FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng, fell out of the top five and ranked sixth with sales of 12340 in July, a difference of 7663.
Although the Passat and Maiteng are sister models to each other, the current performance of the Passat is relatively inferior in the car market. For reference, the cumulative sales of the Passat in 2023 were 191000 and that of Maiteng was 189400, compared with 103000 in the first half of this year and 76200 in Maiteng.
At present, the new generation Maiteng took the lead in the market on July 9, with a total of three models, with a price range of 17.99 yuan to 246900 yuan, compared with 18.69 yuan to 253900 yuan for the old model. For comparison, the current price range of Passat is 18.19-223300 yuan. The new generation of Passat is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, and sales of new cars may further increase after the launch.
Fourth on the list was Mercedes-Benz C-Class from Beijing, which sold 14155 vehicles in July, while the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4L ranked seventh and 11th, with 11384 and 8876 respectively.
In the Japanese midsize sedan camp, the Camry and Accord sold 13179 and 10479 cars in July, respectively, ranking fifth and ninth on the list. Teana, both the "top three of the Japanese series," has fallen out of the top 15, with sales of 3726 cars in June, a clear gap with the former two.
In July, Red Flag H5, owned by FAW Red Flag, entered the eighth place on the list, with sales of 10882 vehicles. In addition, Red Flag E-QM5 entered the top 15, ranking 13th with sales of 6456 vehicles.
Compared with other growth models, Tesla's China Model 3 ranking also slipped sharply in July, falling to 10th from the top of the list in June, and sales fell to 9928 from 18151 in June, a sharp drop of 82.83 per cent from the previous month.
In addition to the above models, Wuling Starlight of SAIC General Motors Wuling and Lecker 07 EM-P of LinkedIn also made it into the top 15, with sales of 6244 and 6001 respectively in July. Among them, Lecker 07 EM-P went on sale on May 17 and launched a total of three models with a price range of 16.98-189800 yuan. The car is based on CMA Evo architecture and is powered by 1.5T EM-P plug-in hybrid system. It is the first plug-in hybrid car of Lock and mainly competes with plug-in hybrid cars such as BYD Seal DM-i in the car market.
Now that the competition in the medium-sized car market is already quite fierce, it remains to be seen who can reshape the peak moment in the medium-sized car field.
