AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/14 Report--
On August 14, SAIC-Volkswagen officials announced the latest personnel changes. Tao Hailong, general manager of SAIC-Volkswagen, was also the party committee secretary of SAIC-Volkswagen. Fu Qiang, former executive director of SAIC-Volkswagen brand marketing, succeeded Yu Jingmin as deputy general manager of SAIC-Volkswagen sales and marketing and general manager of Shanghai SAIC-Volkswagen Automobile sales Co., Ltd. It is understood that Yu Jingmin was transferred to SAIC passenger car and served as executive deputy general manager of SAIC passenger car Branch; in addition, Zhu Yong, former Executive Director of Power Drive platform of Shanghai Automobile Business Planning and Project Management Department, was appointed Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Automobile passenger vehicle Branch.
He is a veteran of the SAIC department. After graduating from university, he joined SAIC Group and served as SAIC Volkswagen Regional General Manager, SAIC Volkswagen Brand sales Director, SAIC sales Deputy General Manager and other positions. In 2014, Yu Jingmin served as deputy general manager of SAIC passenger car Company for seven years. Before Yu Jingmin took over the car, sales of Roewe and Mingjue were slow, while in his last year in office, SAIC sold 657900 passenger cars, which coincided with the epidemic, but the 2.29 per cent decline was much lower than the market decline.
In April 2021, Yu Jingmin served as Deputy General Manager of SAIC Volkswagen sales and Marketing, and General Manager of Shanghai SAIC Volkswagen Automobile sales Co., Ltd.
Yu Jingmin is regarded as the "reviving captain" of SAIC-Volkswagen. Before becoming the general manager of SAIC-Volkswagen sales Company, SAIC-Volkswagen sales had declined for two consecutive years compared with the same period last year, falling by 3.07%, 24.79% and 17.50% respectively from 2019 to 2021. In the following year, SAIC-Volkswagen sales increased by 6.35% compared with the same period last year, and in 2023, under the background of its own brand counter-attack. Sales for the whole year fell by 8.01%. The latest figures show that SAIC-Volkswagen sold a total of 593100 vehicles from January to July 2024, down 1.53% from a year earlier.
After three years, Yu Jingmin returned to the car, the intention is also clear, that is to turn around the passenger car business. Data show that SAIC sold a total of 385100 passenger cars from January to July in 2024, down 20.19% from the same period last year.
In recent years, SAIC passenger cars, including Roewe and MG brands, have been hit by declining sales and brand power. According to the previous performance in July, the top three brands sold 25900 Roewe i5, the lowest-priced model under Roewe, while the MG5 and Roewe D7 also had more than 20, 000 vehicles, 22100 and 21100, respectively, and 15900 MG7, with less than 10, 000 other models.
In the past few years, Roewe not only failed to catch up with the dividend of the electrified transformation, but also continued to lose share in the spring tide of the times. Even the newly launched "D Series" D7 double Power and D5X DMH for the new energy track have not caused too much spray in the mainstream sedan chair market for the time being. Although Mingjue has accelerated its layout of overseas markets and achieved good results, its performance in the domestic market is a mess, with only two models in more than 1,000 vehicles, with the lowest selling price of MG5, followed by MG7 launched last year. As for Feifan, there are only two F7 and R7 models on sale, and sales are also ugly. At present, independent brands are generally in the mixed market, although SAIC shouted the slogan "China plug in and look at SAIC" and launched the corresponding technology, but in terms of sales volume, we can see that the market does not recognize upper-car passenger cars, including both brand awareness and product awareness.
In fact, not only to get on the bus, the entire SAIC Group is facing severe pressure this year. The loss of the advantage of joint venture is the main reason for the decline in sales of SAIC, while the slow development of independent brands in the field of new energy has also become a serious constraint for SAIC. Data show that SAIC's cumulative sales from January to July in 2024 were 2.0784 million vehicles, down 15.92% from the same period last year. Brands such as SAIC-Volkswagen, SAIC-GM and SAIC-GM Wuling all showed a year-on-year decline. In the past five years, SAIC has fallen from a peak of 7.05 million vehicles in 2018 to 5.02 million vehicles in 2023, a decline of 2 million vehicles.
On July 10, SAIC official Xuan's main leaders adjusted the decision: Chen Hong, the former chairman, resigned as chairman and other positions due to retirement, Wang Xiaoqiu became the new chairman of SAIC, and Jia Jianxu became president of SAIC.
After Wang Xiaoqiu took office, his brands also took turns. For SAIC GM, Lu Xiao, former executive deputy general manager of the Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center, succeeded Zhuang Jingxiong as general manager, Cai Bin, former assistant president of SAIC Group, served as party secretary of SAIC GM, and Xue Haitao, former deputy general manager of SAIC GM Wuling, succeeded Lu Yi as deputy general manager of the company. For SAIC-Volkswagen, Jia Jianxu, president of SAIC Group, will no longer serve concurrently as SAIC-Volkswagen general manager, and Tao Hailong, former general manager of Huayu Automotive Systems Co., Ltd., will take over the post of SAIC-Volkswagen general manager.
