Brilliance BMW Automobile Co., Ltd., BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall, the recall plan has been filed with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and the following vehicles will be recalled from August 16, 2024.

1. Brilliance BMW Co., Ltd. recalls a total of 2026 domestic 1-series cars from September 18, 2017 to November 8, 2017, and a total of 1175 domestic 2-series cars from August 3, 2017 to November 8, 2017. a total of 538412 domestic 3-series cars with production dates from May 31, 2005 to November 8, 2017 A total of 56883 domestic X1 cars were produced from January 19, 2010 to November 8, 2017.

II. BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. recalled some imported 1-series cars from August 25, 2004 to November 8, 2017, a total of 86404; some imported 2-series cars from October 11, 2013 to November 8, 2017, a total of 12223; and some imported 3-series cars from December 20, 2004 to November 8, 2017, a total of 96148. Some imported 4-series cars from June 17, 2013 to August 10, 2017, a total of 12047; some imported 5-series cars from September 14, 2009 to January 31, 2017, a total of 101617; a total of 4994 imported 6-series cars from November 15, 2010 to November 8, 2017; and a total of 57683 X1 cars imported from February 16, 2010 to September 21, 2017. A total of 181157 X3 cars were imported from November 3, 2003 to August 25, 2017, 31661 X4 cars were imported from May 21, 2014 to November 8, 2017, 152407 X5 cars were imported from July 19, 2013 to June 20, 2018, and 23107 X6 cars were imported from July 9, 2014 to November 8, 2017.

The reason for the recall is that a small number of vehicles within the scope of this recall, due to the behavior of users to modify the steering wheel after the vehicle is sold, the front airbag of the vehicle driver may be equipped with an ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata Company. When the airbag is deployed, the gas generator may burst, causing fragments to fly out, injuring the people in the car, and there is a hidden danger to safety.

According to the notice, it is impossible to accurately confirm whether the user has modified the steering wheel during use only through the vehicle production information, but the steering wheel of the affected airbag can be identified by appearance. Users can log on to the website or use a QR code to check whether their steering wheel is affected by modification by uploading a vehicle identification number (VIN code) and steering wheel photos, or by contacting a local BMW authorized dealer and going to the store for on-site inspection. For vehicles confirmed to be defective after inspection, brilliance BMW Co., Ltd. and BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. will replace the driver's front airbag free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

Judging from the latest recall models and quantity, this recall involves a large number of models, including domestic 1 series, domestic 2 series, domestic 3 series, domestic X1, imported 1 series, imported 2 series, imported 3 series, imported 4 series, imported 5 series, imported 6 series, imported X1, imported X3, imported X4, imported X5, imported X6 models, and the number of models involved is huge, with a total recall of 1357944 vehicles. Of these, a total of 598496 domestic cars were recalled and 759448 imported vehicles were recalled.
