On September 10th, the new SAIC-Volkswagen Passat Pro 380TSI was officially listed, with a guided price range of 19.99-239900 yuan and a time-limited price of 18.99-223900 yuan. It is worth noting that the 2025 Passat outstanding model is also on the market at the same time, with a time-limited price range of 15.99-179900 yuan.

As a replacement model, the new car has a comprehensive upgrade of its appearance and interior, providing 1.5T engine and 2.0T high-power engine. In terms of appearance design, the new car uses the same styling design as the European version of the Passat B9, and the overall visual effect is younger and fashionable. The front face provides two design styles: the avant-garde version and the starry version, and the difference lies in the internal structure design of the air intake under the front face. Among them, the avant-garde version of the model uses a large mouth intake grille, the interior is embellished with dense strips, which shows more business stability; the starry version uses the intake grille design and blackening treatment, and the interior is supplemented by a diamond grid structure, which is more athletic. In addition, the two new cars are designed with smoked headlights, LED daily running lights throughout the front face, and the glowing brand LOGO, which is highly recognizable.

On the side of the body, the overall outline of the new car is not much different from that of the current Passat. It continues to use the traditional style of outer door handle design, and is equipped with a variety of new shape rims. Among them, the avant-garde version of the model includes five-spoke smoked wheels and two-color wheels, while the Star version uses a smoked exterior mirror and black rims. In the rear part of the car, the new car taillights adopt through-type design and fumigate the interior, the car logo can also be lit, and the exhaust adopts hidden exhaust layout. In addition, the avant-garde version and the Star version are also different in the rear bumper shape, in which the avant-garde version is treated with chrome strips, while the Star version models are designed with penetrating reflective strips.

In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 5006/1850/1489mm and the wheelbase is 2871mm. For comparison, the length, width and height of the current Passat are 4948/1836/1469mm and the wheelbase is 2871mm. In contrast, the length, width and height of the new car have increased, increasing 58/14/20mm respectively, while the wheelbase remains unchanged.

In the interior part, the new car adopts the latest design style of Volkswagen, and will offer three themes: elegant black, Fritillaria white / sea blue, star black / nebula blue, 15-inch suspended central control touch screen, 10.3-inch all-digital LCD instrument and 11.6-inch co-driver entertainment screen, as well as the latest flat-bottomed steering wheel and shift gear design.

In terms of power, the new car will provide two power systems: 2.0T high-power engine, DQ381 seven-speed wet double-clutch transmission, 1.5T engine and DQ200 seven-speed dry dual-clutch transmission. Among them, the maximum power of 2.0T high-power engine is 162 kilowatts, the maximum torque is 350 Nm, and the maximum power of 1.5T engine is 118 kilowatts.

Passat was first born in Germany in 1973, but it was not put into the Chinese market until 2000. The new generation of Passat on the market is the domestic version of the PASSAT B9 and the domestic version of the European version of PASSAT. Volkswagen has cancelled the car version in overseas markets, leaving only the station wagon version, while North and South Volkswagen in the Chinese market continues to launch the hatchback version of Passat, which is unique to the Chinese market. Not long ago, the new Maiteng officially listed, with a price range of 17.99-246900 yuan, which belongs to the domestic version of the American version of PASSAT.

Today, the Passat has become one of the most important models under SAIC-Volkswagen. In the medium-sized car market, the top two models sold in 2022 were Camry and Accord, with sales of 242200 and 220800 respectively, while Passat and Maiteng ranked third and fourth, with sales of 163500 and 152400 respectively. By 2023, Passat and Maiteng were in the top three, with sales of 191000 and 189400, respectively, with Camry still in first place with 225500 and Accord fourth with 174400. From January to August this year, the Passat sold 144500 vehicles, with an average monthly sales of about 18000, making it the top seller of medium-sized cars, followed by Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Maiteng with 112200 and 101400 respectively.

As SAIC-Volkswagen's classic medium-sized sedan, Passat also won the top-selling midsize car in 2016 and 2019, while its sister model Maiteng won the top-selling B-class car in 2017 and 2018, with annual sales of more than 200000 vehicles respectively.

In terms of sales data, Passat sales have indeed increased in the past two years, but it should be noted that Passat is facing competition from Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Teana, Maiteng and other similar models. Now the joint venture brand medium-sized sedan and independent brands are also engaged in hand-to-hand combat, especially after the launch of the two new cars, BYD Qin L and Seal 06. The championship and AFC Champions League lists in July and August have been replaced by both, which means that Passat will face more competitive pressure in the future, and it is worth looking forward to whether SAIC Volkswagen's sales will be boosted after the launch of the new generation Passat.
