Baojun's new compact SUV model, Baojun Yunhai, was officially launched on Sept. 10, with a total of four models with an official price range of 11.18-135800 yuan and a time-limited premium price of 10.98-133800 yuan.

The new car is based on Tianyu architecture, and it is also the first Baojun model under this architecture. It is equipped with a standard high-level intelligent driving system, supports a new generation of smart eye smart driving, and provides pure electric and plug-in hybrid version options. Specifically, in terms of appearance, the new car adopts a new design style, the front face is the popular closed grille design, the two sides are equipped with tapered LED headlamp group design, the interior of the lamp group is three-point design, the visual impact is very strong. The lower enclosure uses a small trapezoidal intake grille, in which the pure electric version uses the same color design, while the PHEV plug-in hybrid version has black decoration on both sides, and the lower grille size is also larger.

On the side of the body, the new car has a round and simple shape, with a waistline running from the front to the rear, and the front and rear fenders bulge slightly, with petal-style 18-inch rims and black decorative lines, further enhancing the sense of movement of the whole car. The new car does not use the popular hidden door handle design, but uses conventional mechanical door knobs. In addition, the new car also provides floating roof and double color rims and other designs, which looks quite dynamic.

In the rear part, the new car is also in a concise style, with through-through LED lamp group design and Baojun car logo LOGO embedded in the middle to enhance the recognition of the vehicle. In addition, the new car uses a segmented roof ducktail design, with a large area of black surrounded by the lower surrounding design, so that the rear looks very athletic, but also more exquisite and stylish.

In terms of body color, the new car provides four colors: Super Shadow Grey, Jade Huibai, Tengyun Blue and Daily Orange. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the pure electric version of the new car are 4541/1880/1608mm, the wheelbase is 2750mm, the positioning compact plug-in hybrid version of SUV; is 4590/1880/1608mm, and the wheelbase is 2750mm, that is to say, the plug-in hybrid version has only a slight increase in body length, and the rest of the dimensions are consistent with the pure electric version. As a reference, the length, width and height of BYD PLUS are 4455/1875/1615mm and the wheelbase is 2720mm.

In the interior part, the new car adopts streamline aesthetic design, featuring simple style, providing morning white and dusk black two kinds of colors, equipped with 8.8inch full liquid crystal dashboard, 15.6inch intelligent touch screen and double-spoke multi-function steering wheel, built-in Ling OS intelligent car machine system, standard 8-speaker sound system includes an independent power amplifier, the overall sense of science and technology. In addition, the new car is equipped with Lingmei 2.0 Max to achieve the first mass production and landing of the end-to-end model in 200000.

In terms of power, the new car provides dual power options of pure electric version and plug-in version. Among them, the pure electric version is driven by a single motor, the maximum motor power is 150kW, and the pure electric mileage of CLTC is 500km and 600km respectively; the plug-in hybrid version is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of 1.5L engine (LBG), with a maximum power of 78kW, a maximum power of 150kW and a peak torque of 310Nm, and CLTC pure electric mileage of 60km and 140km respectively.

Considering the positioning and price of the new car, the pure electric version of the new car will compete with BYD Yuan PLUS, Geely Galaxy E5, Ean AION Y and other models; plug-in hybrid models will compete with Changan Qiyuan Q05 and Qichen large V DD-i super hybrid models after launch. It should be noted that the choice of compact SUV models at this level of the car market is very diverse, which also means that the competition in this market segment is very fierce. Baojun Yunhai, as a new car, is still relatively difficult to get a piece of the pie in this market segment.

In May last year, Baojun announced that it would fully enter the new energy track with the new LOGO as the starting point, but at present, Baojun's models have failed to get a response in the end market. From the perspective of this new car, as a 10-140000 yuan compact SUV model, the biggest highlight of the new car is high-end smart driving, while pure electric models have the highest range of 600km. Officials say the number of new cars will have exceeded 6000 within three hours of the launch, but whether Baojun Yunhai can become a dark horse in the compact SUV market still needs to be tested by the market and more time, where competition is already fierce.

As one of the main brands of SAIC GM Wuling, Baojun also had a highlight moment. In 2017, with Baojun 730, Baojun 510 and Baojun 310 models, Baojun sold more than 1 million cars that year. It is on the same level as Geely and Great Wall, which belong to the independent brand camp, but with the development of the car market, Baojun has failed to achieve "Changhong". In order to support sales, Baojun launched KIWI EV in August 2021 and began to transition to the new energy sector, but judging from the current development of Baojun Automobile, the road of transformation is not smooth. So far, Baojun still has no models that can carry the banner of sales, including KiWi EV, Yunduo, Yueyue and Plus models, covering a market range of 80, 000 to 140000 yuan. Retail data show that in the first eight months of this year, Baojun sold 22697 vehicles, with the highest model being Baojun Yunduo with 9885, followed by Baojun Yue with 6703, while Baojun also had less than 3500 Plus and Baojun KiWi EV with less than 3500 and 2376 respectively.

Admittedly, Baojun Automobile needs to be more aggressive in its products. According to the plan, Baojun Automobile will also launch the first medium-and large-sized sedan, which has been declared by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on August 9. the declaration information shows that the length, width and height of the car is 5005x1900 mm, wheelbase 2900mm, positioning medium and large sedan, with pure electric and plug-in hybrid drive version options.
