On September 21st, Red Flag HS3 PHEV, a compact SUV model owned by FAW Hongqi, was officially launched. The new car has only one model, with a price of 159800 yuan and a pre-shared price of 139800 yuan.

It is understood that the new car is the plug-in hybrid version of Red Flag HS3, and it is also the third plug-in hybrid product under Red Flag. Prior to this, Hongqi has launched two plug-in hybrid models, Hongqi HQ9 PHEV and Hongqi HS7 PHEV, the former selling price is 35.88-538800 yuan, and the latter is 31.58-345800 yuan. Hongqi HS3 launched in July 2023 and launched a total of four models with a price range of 145800 yuan to 195800 yuan, with 1.5T and 2.0T engines, competing with Tuyue, Xiaoke, Tange and Honda HR-V models in the car market.

From the point of view of returning to the red flag HS3 PHEV, in terms of appearance, the new car adopts the red flag family design style and retains most of the elements of the red flag HS3 fuel version model, the front face is a large-size straight waterfall intake grille design, the interior is supplemented by chrome decoration, the center is extended to the engine cover on the red flag LOGO logo, the vision is very dignified atmosphere. With split headlamp groups on both sides, the upper part of LED daily running lights show a "C" style, quite visual impact, surrounded by bright silver chrome plating, and the lower lamp group adopts vertical layout and black decoration to enhance the sports atmosphere of the whole vehicle.

On the side of the body, the new car has smooth and straight lines, with low wind resistance modeling rims, and the overall movement flavor is rich, but the new car does not use the popular hidden door handle design, and the wing plate is equipped with a red flag logo to enhance identification. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4655/1900/1668mm and the wheelbase is 2770mm. In the rear part, the new car is also family-based, with large-size spoiler and through taillight group design, supplemented by flying wing shape, so as to improve the recognition of the vehicle. The lower surround is very thick, with a combination of black tail lips and silver panels, with two bilateral hidden exhaust designs to further enhance the sense of movement of the whole vehicle.

In the interior part, the design of the new car is relatively simple, adopting embracing cockpit design, the center console is composed of 12.3-inch full liquid crystal instrument and 12.6-inch central control screen, and the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel adopts flat-bottomed design without losing the sense of technology as a whole.

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of a 1.5T engine and a motor, the maximum power of the engine is 124kW, the maximum power of the motor is 140kW, it is equipped with 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, 115km under CLTC condition, and the transmission system matches the single-gear DHT gearbox.

Retail data show that from January to August this year, FAW accumulated sales of 255566 vehicles, with the highest sales of Hongqi H5 (90050 vehicles), followed by Hongqi HS5 (63022 vehicles) and Hongqi E-QM5 (56481 vehicles), while Hongqi HS3 ranked fourth (23031 vehicles), while other models were less than 10,000 vehicles. For example, Hongqi H6 ranked fifth with 7615 vehicles.

Considering the positioning and price of Red Flag HS3 PHEV, as a compact SUV plug-in hybrid model, the new car is cheaper than Red Flag HQ9 PHEV and Red Flag HS7 PHEV, and is expected to bring new sales growth, but the new car will also compete with BYD Song PLUS DM-i, Toyota RAV4 Rong Rong dual engine E+, Honda CR-V e:PHEV and other models after launch.

In addition to the Red Flag HS3 PHEV, the 2025 Red Flag H5 also went on sale on the same day. The price of the car is 159800-225800 yuan. The power continues to provide 1.5T engine, 2.0T engine and 1.5T HEV hybrid system, corresponding to "35TD", "40TD" and "HEV", respectively, but the gasoline required for 1.5T engines in 2025 models has been reduced from 95 to 92. After the launch, the new model will continue to compete with Passat, Maiteng, Camry, Accord and other medium-sized cars of the same class.

With the launch of the Red Flag HS3 PHEV and the 2025 Red Flag H5, it remains to be seen whether it can bring more sales to FAW Red Flag.
