According to the announcement, BYD Automotive Industry Co., Ltd. and BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products, filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall the following vehicles from September 30, 2024.

First, BYD Automotive Industry Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 87762 domestic dolphin and yuan PLUS electric vehicles produced from February 4, 2023 to December 26, 2023.

Second, BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 8952 domestic PLUS electric vehicles produced during the period from November 2, 2022 to June 19, 2023.

The reason for the recall is that some vehicles within the scope of this recall due to the manufacturing process of the electric power steering column assembly (CEPS) controller, interference with the capacitor on the controller circuit board when the upper cover plate of the equipment is closed, resulting in micro-cracks in the capacitor. In the use of vehicles, capacitor micro-cracks may expand and cause short circuit, resulting in capacitor overheating ablation, or even fire, there is a safety risk. In view of the above defects, BYD Automotive Industry Co., Ltd. and BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. will entrust BYD authorized dealers to install controller insulation gaskets for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

According to Automotive Industry concern, the dolphin, which went on sale in September 2021, is the first model of BYD Ocean Network, positioning a small pure electric car, and becoming a star model in the small car market with its cute design and moderate price. In 2023, BYD sold a total of 299700 dolphins, ranking first in annual sales of A0-class models.

In February this year, Dolphin Honor Edition launched a total of four configured models with a price range of 9.98-129800 yuan. The appearance of the car has not changed much, mainly aimed at power upgrading, equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with maximum power 70kW and peak torque of 180N ·m, while the high-performance knight version has a maximum power of 130kW and a peak torque of 290N ·m. The latest retail figures show that dolphin sales totaled 95954 in the first eight months of this year, with an average monthly sales of about 11200.

Yuan PLUS, a compact SUV model owned by BYD, launched in February 2022, when a total of five models were launched at that time, and the current price is 11.98-163800 yuan. The latest retail figures show that in the first eight months of this year, Yuan PLUS sold a total of 171523 vehicles, with an average monthly sales of about 21000 vehicles.

In terms of the number of recalls, BYD recalled a large number of vehicles, a total of 96714 vehicles. It is worth mentioning that, as the leader of domestic new energy vehicles, BYD has an absolute lead in the auto market. By the end of August, BYD had sold 2.328 million cars, an increase of 29.92 percent over the same period last year. According to the annual sales target of 3.6 million vehicles, BYD had completed 64.4 percent in the previous August, which means that in the next four months, BYD's monthly sales only need to stabilize at more than 320000 vehicles to meet its sales target on schedule.

On the same day, two Toyota joint ventures in China also announced a recall. According to the announcement, Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall, the recall plan was filed with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. The following vehicles will be recalled from September 29, 2024.

Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled some of the Vanguard Landa twin-engine cars produced between July 19, 2023 and September 7, 2024, totaling 72828 vehicles.

Second, FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled some of the Corolla Ruifang dual-engine vehicles produced from July 3, 2023 to September 9, 2024, a total of 59296 vehicles.

The reason for the recall is that the brake actuator can not properly adjust the brake fluid pressure when braking in the steering process due to the imperfect computer program of brake actuator control in the scope of this recall. In extreme cases, the vehicle may be unable to provide braking force according to the driver's intention for a very short time, and the braking distance is longer than the driver's predicted distance, which increases the risk of vehicle collision. In view of the above defects, Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will upgrade the internal program of the brake actuator control computer for the vehicles within the recall range free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

Judging from the number of recalls, Toyota also recalled a large number of vehicles, totaling 132124 vehicles.

It is understood that Feng Landa and Carola Ruifang are sister models to each other, both of which are based on Toyota TNGA-C platform. Among them, Fenglanda is a compact SUV model owned by Guangzhou Auto Toyota, which went on sale in January 2022 and currently sells for 12.58-184800 yuan, while KarolaRuifang, a compact SUV model owned by FAW Toyota, went on sale in January 2022. At that time, the price range was 12.98-169800 yuan, making it the cheapest SUV model in the FAW-Toyota family and currently priced at 12.98-184800 yuan.

Fenglanda and Carola Ruifang are both Toyota's best-selling models. According to retail data, Fenglanda sold 132000 vehicles in the first eight months of this year, making it Toyota's top-selling model, followed by the Corolla Ruifang with 112200.

Judging from the scale of this recall, whether it is BYD or Toyota, the recall involves not many models, but the number of recalls is still quite a lot. It is understood that the so-called automobile recall refers to the process of eliminating product defects carried out by defective automobile product manufacturers according to legal requirements and procedures, which is generally divided into active recall and compulsory recall. Of course, we have to face squarely that although vehicle recalls are not a bad thing in themselves, frequent recalls will be regarded as a bad signal, which will not only make car owners question the brand, but also affect the brand image and reputation of car companies.
