AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/03 Report--
The cheapest version of Tesla's Model 3, a standard afterdrive version with a Chinese lithium iron phosphate battery, is no longer accepted in the US market, according to Tesla's official website on Oct. 3. The price is $38990 (about 274000 yuan). At present, there are three versions of Model 3 on sale, namely, long-range rear-wheel drive version, long-range all-wheel drive version and high-performance all-wheel drive version, which are priced at $42490, $47490 and $54990, respectively.
The removal of the standard afterdrive version from the shelves means that the cheapest Tesla Model 3 model in the US market will start at $42490. Industry insiders believe that Tesla's official website of the United States to stop selling Model 3 standard afterdrive models may be related to the recent announcement by the United States of higher tariffs on Chinese imports. However, as of press time, Tesla officials did not explain the reasons for suspending the sale of the model.
On September 13, the US government decided to significantly increase import tariffs on Chinese products, including raising the tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles to 100%. In addition, the United States will impose a 50% tariff on Chinese solar cells and a 25% tariff on Chinese steel, aluminum, electric car batteries and key minerals. Meanwhile, cars that contain Chinese-made parts, such as LFP batteries, are not eligible for a $7500 tax credit provided by the government.
On September 23, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that it would propose to ban intelligent Internet-connected cars in the United States from using key hardware and software from countries such as China and Russia, citing national security reasons, and hopes to establish final rules by January 20, 2025. Brainard, director of the White House National Economic Council, said that if Americans want to choose an electric car, "we need to make sure it is made in the United States, not made in China."
In terms of the proportion of tariffs, China's electric vehicles have been greatly affected, but the US market is not the main destination for Chinese new energy car companies to go to sea. According to data, only 12400 Chinese pure electric passenger vehicles were exported to the United States in 2023.
As of press time, why Tesla stopped selling Model 3 standard rear-drive models on the US official website, Tesla has not yet given an explanation.
On October 2nd, Tesla released production and sales figures for the third quarter of this year. Data show that in the third quarter, Tesla produced a total of 469800 new cars worldwide, and Model 3Unix Y produced a total of 443700, and delivered a total of 462900 new cars, a new high for the year, but less than the expected 499000. By the end of the first three quarters of this year, Tesla had delivered about 1.3 million vehicles worldwide.
Or affected by the above news, as of Oct. 2 U.S. eastern time, U. S. stocks closed, Tesla closed at $249.020, down 3.49%, the market value lost $28.7 billion (about 201.2 billion yuan) overnight, the total market capitalization is now $795.5 billion.
Earlier, Tesla officials have issued a red flag: the growth rate of new car deliveries this year is expected to be significantly lower than the growth rate in 2023. Tesla pointed out that the main reason is that the Tesla superfactory is preparing for the launch of the next generation of new cars. Up to now, Tesla has four models on sale worldwide, including Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. according to plan, Tesla will launch cheaper models in the second half of 2025.
