Recently, Great Wall Motor released production and sales figures for September. Data show that in September 2024, Great Wall sold 108398 vehicles, down 10.88% from 121632 in the same period last year, down 10.88% from January to September to 853813, down 1.18% from a year earlier and 864045 in the same period last year. In terms of production, production in September was 107200, down 22.25% from 137870 in the same period last year. The cumulative production this year is 851426 vehicles, compared with 896265 vehicles in the same period last year.
As for the brands of Great Wall, only the tank brand and the WEY brand achieved year-on-year growth this month. Among them, the WEY brand had a strong sales performance in September, reaching 6755 vehicles. Compared with the same period last year, it increased by 165.11%. Of course, the surge in sales of the WEY brand in September has something to do with the launch of New Blue Mountain and the limited time discount for its models launched by the WEY brand. Wei Brand, founded in 2016, is the brand of Great Wall Automobile to enter the high-end market. At first, the products were named after the "VV+ digital" way, and three models such as VV5, VV6 and VV7 were launched one after another, and sales peaked at that time. According to the data, the annual sales of WEY from 2017 to 2018 were 86000 and 139500 respectively. But since 2019, with more and more joint venture brand prices falling, and independent brands continue to launch high-end products, Wei brand sales have also been hit hard, 2019 Wei brand sales of 100000, down 28.28 from the same period last year. It continued to slide to 78500 in 2020.
Great Wall is making strategic adjustments to Wei in 2021 to reverse the decline in sales of Wei cars. A number of coffee models such as Mocha, Macchiato and latte have been launched one after another, but the arrival of new models has not changed the sales of Wei Brand. In April 2023, Wei Brand launched a new model, Blue Mountain, and the arrival of new cars successfully stopped the decline in sales of Wei Brand. Data show that one month after the launch of the new car, Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV sales reached 5136. However, the performance of Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV sales also began to decline in September last year.
In order to improve the sales of Wei brand, the official also launched a new Wei brand Lanshan smart driving version this year, with a total of two models, with a price range of 29.98 yuan to 326800 yuan. The new car carries a 8295 chip and has a significant upgrade compared with the old model in terms of smart cockpit and smart driving. Official figures show that the number of the new Blue Mountain has reached 8571 within 24 hours of listing. In addition to the launch of the new car, Wei Brand also launched a time-limited discount for its Wei brand mocha Hi4 model during this period. The limited time discount of new cars on the market also contributes to the improvement of Wei Brand sales to a certain extent.
Tank brand sales in September were 18740, up 3.8 per cent from a year earlier. Total sales from January to September were 169810, an increase of 62.43 per cent compared with 104545 in the same period last year. At present, there are five models for sale under the tank brand, including tank 300, tank 400, tank 500, tank 700 and tank 330. Of these, the brand's main sales come from tank 300s, which totaled 41800 in the first half of this year. According to the official plan, the follow-up tank brand will also launch models such as Tank 800, which will cover the compact, medium-and large-scale and full-size "high-end cross-country SUV" market.
In addition to tank brand, WEY brand achieved growth in September. Sales of Harvard, Great Wall pick-up trucks and Euler brands all declined in September compared with the same period last year. Of these, the Euler brand sold 5486 vehicles in September, down 45.25% from 10021 in the same period last year. In fact, the decline in sales of the Euler brand is not surprising. Since the black cat and white cat models were discontinued in 2022, Euler has not launched any new models, and the overall sales source is mainly Euler cats. At present, the Euler brand is selling three models: Euler good cat, ballet cat and lightning cat. Data show that from January to June, Euler sold 21968 cats, lightning cats 1500 and ballet cats 719.
Let's take a look at the Harvard brand. As we all know, the monthly sales of Great Wall mainly come from the Harvard brand, accounting for more than half of the total sales of Great Wall. Sales of the Harvard brand in September were 62900, down 14.73 per cent compared with 73766 in the same period last year. In fact, Harvard's sales have declined year-on-year since April. The decline in sales of the Harvard brand has something to do with the decline in sales of its popular model, the Harvard H6. After all, with the increasingly fierce competition in the car market, it is not easy for the Harvard H6 to continue its glory. To this end, the Harvard brand is also launching new cars one after another. The new generation of Harvard H6 went on sale on June 19th with a price range of 11.79-143900 yuan. It is understood that the new generation of Harvard H6 is based on the Great Wall lemon platform, using a new appearance and interior design. On September 25, the new generation of Harvard H9 was officially launched. The new car has launched a total of three models with a price range of 19.99-229900 yuan. With the arrival of new models, the sales of the Harvard brand may improve to a certain extent.
Finally, Great Wall pickup trucks sold 14456 vehicles in September, down 15.94% from 17197 in the same period last year. From the sales data of various brands of Great Wall in September, it is not difficult to see that Great Wall is still lagging behind in terms of new energy vehicle sales, and there are no popular models so far. In addition, with the rapid development of new energy vehicles, the market share of fuel vehicles is also shrinking. Great Wall Motor, which is in the transition, still has to speed up the transformation, which is the key to reverse the sales difficulties of Great Wall Motor.
