AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/10 Report--

According to foreign media reports, Japanese carmaker Honda said that if the demand for pure electric vehicles continues to weaken, it may dynamically adjust its electrification roadmap, indicating that Honda may eventually, like other international carmakers, delay the goal of electric vehicles.

According to Honda's previous plan, Honda will launch a total of seven new electric vehicles worldwide by 2030, and plans to reach 40% of global sales of pure electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles at the same time. The annual production of pure electric vehicles will reach more than 2 million. By 2040, Honda's goal of achieving 100% of global sales of pure electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles has not changed, building a strong pure electric vehicle brand and career cornerstone from a medium-to long-term point of view. Based on this, Honda will invest 10 trillion yen by 2030 in an effort to transition to electrification.

For now, Honda maintains this goal and interprets the current stagnation in electric vehicle sales as a "short-term headwind". "We have plenty of room to adjust the timetable for building electric car factories around the world, and if things go in an unexpected direction, we will adjust our electric vehicle strategy in a timely manner," Mr Mika said. "

Honda publicly unveiled its Honda 0 series electric vehicle prototype and some information on Oct. 9, which is scheduled to be officially unveiled at CES 2025 in January 2025. As Honda's new series of pure electric vehicles, "Honda 0" will play an important role in the pure electric vehicle strategy. According to the plan, the "Honda 0" series will be first launched in the North American market in 2026, and seven models will be launched worldwide by 2030, covering all types of large, medium, small and medium-sized models.

In terms of product planning, the mass production version of the Saloon concept car will become the "Honda 0" series is the flagship model, the price may be higher than Accord, and the mass production car will be available in 2026. The new car will be built with Honda's latest concept and will be equipped with Honda's new LOGO for the first time. It will be first launched in North America in 2026 and then in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America. By 2030, the world will offer a total of seven "Honda 0" models in various market segments.

In the Chinese market, Honda will launch 10 pure electric models in China by 2027. After 2027, all Honda models launched in China are hybrid and pure electric vehicles, and will no longer be launched with new pure fuel models. By 2035, Honda China will account for 100% of pure electric vehicle sales. This all-electric goal is five years ahead of Honda's global expectations. It is understood that in addition to the currently launched eRanger N series, it will also continue to expand the product lineup of pure electric vehicles through the "Ye" brand. Dongfeng Honda even launched its own brand-"Lingzhi" also seeks further development. The first model Lingzhi L officially dormitory on September 26, the price is 129800 yuan, the new car is driven by pure electric. The main competitors are BYD Qin PLUS, Changan Qiyuan A07, Dongfeng eπ 007, Eian AION S and other models.

However, although Honda is also accelerating the expansion of the new energy vehicle market, its current achievements are not significant. Honda's cumulative sales of terminal cars in China from January to August in 2024 were 525432, down 27.19% from a year earlier, according to official data. It is difficult for Honda to launch electric cars in China to compete with its own brands.

Honda sold about 13000 electric vehicles in the first half, accounting for about 0.7 per cent of its total passenger car sales. Currently, Honda has 11 electric models worldwide, including the X-NV and e:NP1 in China and the Prologue in the United States and Canada, but these actually contribute little to Honda's sales.

As consumer enthusiasm for battery-powered cars wanes, global carmakers have been scaling back their electric vehicle targets, with affordability, lack of charging infrastructure and battery-life anxiety remaining key issues. Last month, Volvo abandoned its goal of selling only pure electric vehicles by 2030, while Toyota delayed production of its first American-made electric car to 2026.
